Hi Everyone,

Just retired and joined an indoor bowling club, as they keep telling me should have joined years ago. Always thought it was an Old Persons sport, how wrong could I have been.

Anyway currently using a set of woods from the club but will be looking to buy my own set, not to sure what to buy as am currently getting loads & loads of conflicting advice!!
Going to join an outdoor club so want to buy a set that I can play both indoor And outdoor, any ideas.

Thanks, great friendly sport.

Got to say Welcome Sony

The Subject of which Bowls are suitable for Indoor and Outdoors is Difficult you will get a different answer from ever Bowler you meet,
The Only one I could recommend is the Classic Two but then again on end rinks Indoors they cant take a wide enough Swing,
Try Borrowing a few sets of different makes and try them out,

Sorry I Cant be of More Help

Hi sony

I wish I could have started years ago too, but would never have had the time to fit it in, I have been playing for 7 months with my husband and have have made lovely new friends too. I tried several sizes and make of woods as well as having guidance from experienced bowlers. I purchased Drakes Pride professional suitable for indoors and outdoors. I feel comfortable playing with them and I think you get to 'know' your woods and play accordingly.

Hope you enjoy bowls as much as we do

Hi Rosabel,

Thanks for the welcome, know what you mean about making new friends, but I do find the amount of advice confusing!
A friend of mine has suggested Drakes Pride Professional, had had a few bids on e-bay, not sure if thats the best place to buy them.
Will probably buy a new set when I can make my mind up:(

Thanks again

Hi Sony,

Welcome to the forum, hope you get as much fun/pleasure out of it as I do.
Friend of mine bought a set of hensilites on e-bay, paid £85 + £3.50p postage, he was really happy. Red Classic 2's just of new he was really happy & plays well with them!!!:D

Good to Welcome Someone New to World Bowler sure you will enjoy chatting to us,

Once you have made your mind up about which sort of Bowl you would like if you keep a look out down your Club there is usually a good few

sets up for sale, and Bowlers usually will let you play with them for a week or so to make up your mind if its what you want,

Sure you will enjoy playing Outdoors

All the Best Angel

Welcome Sony

Bowling is a Wonderful Sport like you I wish I had taken it up years ago, one of the most difficult decisions is finding a Bowl that suits you and the Newer Bowls are made with a more narrow line,
What ever you do don't go buying a Set off someone down the Club they might be suitable Indoors but Outdoors Unplayable,
If I was you I would bide my time until the Summer and then try a few Makes Outdoors an Awful lot of Bowlers find they need two sets

Good Luck with your Bowling

Sony, wait until April when the outdoor clubs start bowling and go to your local ones to see what they have to offer. Obviously we do not know what part of the country you will bowl in but if you can give the forum members a hint someone will give you further advice on your local clubs.

Hi Umpire,

Thanks for advice very much appreciated, I live in Devon, have put myself in a bit of a quandary as I think I have called my Skip a Pratt in another post so I better not say which part!!

Should not have done that, my team mates call him the 'Wing Commander'
as he is always waving his arms around. Played today with him, think he just wound me up a bit. I will be better with a bit more practice (I hope)

Hi Sony and welcome to our forum, sorry I can't suggest which indoor bowls as I only bowl outdoor all year round.

But if you can I would suggest you wait untill your outdoor season starts, before deciding.

Thanks Kiwi Bowler,

Will wait until the outdoor season is underway my Club opens around 12th April with bowling starting weather permitting.

I assume your Greens are quite quick because of the climate?? Reading some of the posts sounds like Australia is even quicker with the recent heatwave.
