Hi All

Very new to bowling, hubby and I started about 7 months ago as we started working part time, More time to take up an interest and a new activity. Absolutely love it, Have made soem wonderful new friends and have lots of support from experienced bowlers at the club. Have just invested in my own woods, shoes etc having hired them for while at the club. 8 of us meet every Friday evening and I think we are all improving over time. But would love some advise and hints. Biggest problem I think is consistency - some weeks good other weeks hopeless. But we are not deterred as we enjoy it so much - win or lose.

Great to have a forum, look forward to 'chatting'

Thanks for your welcome Frankie. We bowl indoors but will be trying outdoors in the summer. Not sure how we will be on grass but looking forward to trying it.

We are looking forward to joining our club in March, not sure about playing in other teams yet. At the moment we are 4 couples who met up in the coaching class one of the members runs. Not all retired so unable to commit to leagues etc but I think it would be good for us to play against other people as we are so used to the same team each week, However the enjoyment value is high and the skills are developing.

Looking forward to watching the World Bowls tournement which will be on TV tomorrow.

Hi Rosabell and welcome to our forum.

Out of interest which bowls did you invest in?

I myself have never bowled indoors, I only bowl out doors, but our summer season here in NZ goes for 8 months.

Hi Rosabel

Good to Welcome you to World Bowler, like yourself Hubby and I started Bowling a few years ago, spent a good few weeks sitting on very hard chairs one Winter having Bowling Lessons at one point I did wonder what i had let myself in for, But as soon as I got onto the Green I was Hooked Lovely People and Great Fun, first year I did get fed up with people trying to tell me how to Bowl everyone wanted to give me lessons,

Couldn't have taken up a Better Sport wish I had done it Years Ago.

Thanks everyone for your welcoming posts. Kiwi bowler I bought Drakes Pride professional suitable for both indoors and outdoors. I tried a few different types and sizes in the club and sharing with my friends when we just played 2 woods each and found these to be suitable. I also took some advice from experienced bowlers, however there is a lot of personal preference involved. I have to say I have played twice with my new shiny woods and I am doing ok with them. I wonder is it the woods or the player - who knows?

I am not going to be head hunted I am sure, so happy with playing and socialising, mind you some friendly competetiveness creeping in and we all challenge ourselves to improve.

Best thing hubby and I ever did was to take up bowls last year.

Glad I came across this forum too.

Hi Rosebela

Its good that I can have a good moan about things which happen in my Club and get it out of my System without any come back
You will find out the better you get at Bowling the more of a threat you are among the Ladies they will be worried you are going to take their places in teams,
You Go for it Girl its all down to Consceration and finding your Opponent Weak Spot

Hi All,

Hi Angel,

Good point, but have found in recent years is to STAY out of club politics and just turn up bowl, enjoy the sport. I think some of the older members are in their second childhood and the silly things become big issues!!!:D

Hi Angel

Crikey sounds a bit serious! Have heard little changing room chats at our club so understand what you mean. We are joining the club in March as we have been playing as a group of friends since we started last year.

We want to join to support the club but we still haven't worked out how it all works - like how do we get a game(friendly) How do we let people know we might want a game. Are we good enought to play or will be dropped when they know we play like newbies? Although looking at some ends we don't feel so bad really.

Still a very social night out but we are all getting better at bowls as time goes on.

Nice to chat
