G'Day Kiwi Bowler,

First launched over the pond, details of pre launched I will post below.

Have seen them in action, not for me as not a lot of hook, great for front end, but not sure mate.

Details;

July 13, 2009 Traveling bowlers at the Gold Coast’s Winter Carnival were recently treated to a sneak preview of the ALPHA, Henselite’s newest bowl.
ALPHA is designed specifically for synthetic and faster greens. The bowl is distinguished by its steady curved arc and flat finish into the head and also features a unique non-slip grip.
Mark Hensell, Managing Director of Henselite is confident that ALPHA is the best bowl for fast greens that Henselite has created in its 80 year history manufacturing bowls in Australia.
“Henselite has always been at the forefront employing innovative technology in bowls design and manufacture and the Alpha is an exceptional example of this.”
“We have put the bowl through its paces by some of Australia’s leading bowlers. From coast to coast, top to bottom in all conditions on a variety of surfaces Alpha has been rigorously on-green tested. Those that have tried it so far have given it rave reviews.”
Top NSW bowler Shane Garvey agrees, believing ALPHA has some outstanding features that will help bowlers at all levels take better control of their game. “With ALPHA I know I will have a real chance of executing all the shots in my portfolio and thus playing to my potential” says Shane.
For starters, not only does ALPHA “feel comfortable in hand but its flat finish to the head over the last couple of metres makes it a predictable bowl – thus ensuring you have confidence in it performing day in day out.”
Commonwealth Games Medallist, Nathan Rice agrees, “I’ll stick to Australian made, not only because I’m Australian, but because this is by far the best Lawn Bowl I’ve ever trialled.” Nathan says.
“It gives me even more confidence to go forward and win more often, ALPHA leaves me feeling excited and with a sense of having a distinct advantage” he says.
“After trying it on all surfaces and under all conditions on the Gold Coast, indoor and out, from 13 to 17 seconds under both windy and still conditions…I was so impressed that I asked Henselite to get me a set immediately!” says Nathan.
“I believe whatever position you play, whether it be, Lead, Second, Third or Skip, Singles pairs Triples or 4’s, you’ll find that you’ll use less weight as ALPHA stands up more and that means you’ll have more bowls in the head.” he continues.
Needless to say Nathan’s request to “get me a set of ALPHAs immediately” will soon resonate Australia wide!
The new ALPHA has it all: Looks, feel, versatility and reliability – it’s very much the complete package for bowlers of all abilities, on all surfaces and in all conditions.

Be first with ALPHA in your hand!!!
For those eager to get their hands on the new ALPHA, it will be available in bowls stores throughout Queensland and New South Wales from 10 August, Victoria and Tasmania from 24 August and South Australia and Western Australia from 7 September

Doesn't sound like the ALPHA Henselite would be any good for the Wet Heavy Greens we get over here in the UK, might be all right for Indoors

Hi Peter,

Did see the Hallmark 'Edge', in use on wet English greens this year, straight up the middle, never seen anything like it, mind you the chap was leading and his team got hammered, although he was the better of the two leads.

I think the advantages are far out weighed by the disadvantages, good example is that any wood on the straight line and you've had it!!!!:D
