yes we got our first frost for the winter today, but at least no rain.

Hope it's sunny this Sat as my clubs got our interclub play off's to see if we go up a grade.

I'm a weekend bowler (not retired yet), but I have been playing for approx 13 years now.:D

Well we won our interclub play-offs by default so we will be in a higher grade next year.

So as no interclub I went to roll up instead and had one of those top days where I couldn't do anything wrong. I play with Henselite Masters which take a nice wide green.

Also it was a loving sunny day (that was on Sat), where as today we have had both rain and sun.

Thanks for the welcome everyone, even though my club closed for the season 2 weeks ago we will still carry on playing over the winter.

One good thing is we don't have to wear our Creams:grin:

We are playing today against another local club, for a trophy, it's a late start which is good as it's cold this morning.

Hi Kiwi Bowler, do you play outdoors in the winter, or do you have indoor rinks, in Cornwall we only have two outdoor rinks, but the weather is usually dreadful so don't get a lot of bowling, there are a few indoor clubs but have got to travel a long way, good luck with any more games you are playing, weather is good today, just starting our summer, going to make the most of it.:cool:

Hi Surfer, yes we play outside winter and sunmer. My club has 2 artificial greens, one is on it's last legs and we are hoping to replace it by next year.
The clubs with grass greens only, stop for the winter to work on their greens.
As far as I know there's only 1 indoor green in Auckland at a place called Pukekohe, which is approx 40 to 50mins from central Auckland.
I have never been there to play bowls as it's in a different Bowls Centre.

Thanks for that Kiwi Bowler, alway's wondered if you could play all year, real lucky, would love to live with weather like that, played the county singles Saturday got knocked out second round, raining cats and dogs hear, but pretty mild, do you have many competitions in the winter months, Surfer;)

Yes there's usually a tournament on at some club during the winter, but no centre events.

There's a bit of sellection too with 3 or 2 bowl triples or pairs playing 2-4-2 which I like because you get to play both lead and skip.

My club still has it's roll ups every Tues and Sat afternoon for men or Mon and Thurs morning for the women in the winter and yes it's a mixed club so we can go to all rollups if we wish.
But a lot don't and I can only play weekends as I'm still working.:(

Bit of rain today, just been looking on the site, must be nice to play outdoors in the winter, our weather is a bit harsh hear, we do have some nice indoor clubs, but its not the same, find the games take twice as long, and allways a bit stuffy, would love your weather.

All depends which club we play at, got a couple which only go one way, never changed round, need to be a body builder to sling your woods up, some strange lines if you can get on the jack first, no one can get you off, its doing it thats tricky, but we get our own back when we get them on fast greens, their woods keep ending up in the ditch, hate playing in the rain, you slip and slide, trying to get woods up the green.:(:(

Hi http://www.webweaver.nu/clipart/img/misc/angels/angel-fly.gifme too, but the weather is still not too good here. Have had a mixed day today, with rain, winds and the odd periods of sun. So will have to wait and see what happens tommorowhttp://www.smilecity.co.nz/img/smlWave.gif (http://javascript%3cb%3e%3c/b%3E:aS(':)*'))

Hi http://www.webweaver.nu/clipart/img/misc/angels/angel-fly.gifnot too bad a morning, got my angel back, thanks, just going to save it in favorites, up a bit too early, start bowling later, how is everything going with you Kiwi Bowler, hope the weather clears, and you get a game, just hoping they haven't changed the teams for today, triples, had a few people pull out, have you had a look at the joke section lately, when playing in the club things, some of the jokes are very appropriate, know this is naughty, got to rush now, bye Angel:D

Like the Angel, cheered me up, feeling a bit grumpy this morning, sky is overcast and looks very much like rain, that means no game, another wet day stuck in front of the tele, groan:(

Hi Angel, saw you hadn't been using your angel so copied it for you. It's 8.45 am and not raining, but still dark clouds. Will depend on how the green we are playing on is, still about another 2 hours before I will know if I'm playing or not.
Yes the jokes are very funny:),
wishing you Good Bowling

Not having a lot of luck with your bowling, weather is pretty bad, would be nice if it rained during the week, and stayed dry for the weekend, we dont get any bowling in our winters, has to be indoors, just lucky if you live near a indoor club, will keep my fingers crossed for you this weekend.:D:DAngel

Going off the subject, just got to tell you this, when the new roll ups came, thats stockings which stay up on there own, for all you gents out there, thought i would give them a try, half way through the game one started to slowly roll down my leg, so bending over i put my hand on my leg to stop it going down any further, and hobbled down the green, this kindly bowler came over, and said know just how you feel dear, my back plays me up all the time, must have looked a sight bent over and hobbled giggling into the club house, the chap must have thought i made a miraculous recovery next end. :D:D

Many years ago, when we used to have strings on the green, must be a few people who remember them used to put them out to divide the rinks and take them in at night tedious job, well one of our not so slim ladies tripped over the string, grabbed the nearest thing to her, who happened to be the club captain, he fell on top of her, what a sight no one could bowl for laughing the rest of the game,:D:Dnot so sure her hubby was happy she had large thermal knickers on.

Bigbear
07-05-2008, 06:04 PM
Don't get anything like that happening at our club, do remember the strings, taken them in often enough, don't know any clubs who still do this, least you knew when a wood was out, got to get them darn mirrors out now.
