Hope this will come out alright? this is my first post but regular viewer of the site.

We are both in our second year of bowls and really enjoying outdoor and indoor bowls!! Going on holiday is a real bonus!!!!

Anyone been to Menorca to bowl that can give us a few tips. We are staying at the hotel by the bowling green and understand that it's the only bowling club on Menorca!!

Will post a few photos on our return. Have a good few weeks bowling and will post on our return!!!

Hi Tourist,

This is my 1st post as well & as like you have visited the site many times before!

Our Club has also been on a bowling tour to Menorca, expect you are staying at S Algar Hotel, the bowling club is owned by the hotel and is the only one on the Island.

You can't help but to have a great time, the resort is fairly quiet but ideal for a bowling tour tour. The hotel is very clean, food great, a bit tired in some areas but that would be looking for something to complain about!!!

We went a couple of years ago, it wasn't that cheap on the Island, now that the £ to the euro is nearly 1-1 would expect it to be very expensive, look forward to your post/photos on return!!!

Have a great time:cool::cool::cool:

My hairdresser went there this year, and she has two small girls she said it cost eight euro for a sunbed, and thirtyfour pounds for the hotel safe,
What a rip off think she would have perfered to stay and Holiday in England, and is planning this for next year, pity we dont get the guaranted sun over here

Hi tourist and overseas Bowlers,

Watching this site and thread with great interest, my club is looking to tour again next winter September/October but the value of the euro and the amount of money you can spend in the euro zone is making many of our members thinking of touring some where out side of the euro zone???

Spain is still your best bet for tours. We have the weather, hotels, facility's and the venue's. 2 hours away by easyjet or ryanair. Plus the social side takes some beating. Speak to your members they know what they want.
Keep Smiling...

Tourist here in Menorca at S Algar,

On hotel internet 2 euro for 20 min.

Having a great time but only one club on Island so little competition and no social side that you get in mainland Spain when on tour.

will post on return (this just cost 1 euro)!!! about £1

P.S. £7 a time to bowl will never moan again at 50p a game in the U.K.!!!!!!!!!!!!! including tea!!!!!!!!

Hi Everone,

Returned from a brilliant 2 week Bowling tour holiday to Menorca, we stayed at the San Louis hotel in S Algar purpose built resort in Southern Menorca. Decent hotel with the ONE and only bowling green in Menorca attached to the hotel.
We had 5 games of bowls toured the Island with pony trotting races etc!!!!

The downside is the sorry state of our £ against the euro, everything was so expensive £7 for a game of bowls £3 for a large bottle of water hotel and resort drink prices so expensive that most of us had our room 'Supplies'!!!!

Apart from that had a great time but next time will holiday outside the euro zone!!!!

G'Day Tourist & Bowlers,

Don't get organized tours from the Northern part of the world guess it's the traveling!!! We have a good deal of local tours & a few from New Zealand etc. Although understand South Africa get a few U.K. touring teams, think O.Z. would be great for a tour, great bowling & social side etc. A lot on individuals who are visiting family/holiday always are most welcome to our events & sure have a great time!!8-)

Thanks Terry,

Although we did have a great time the main feedback was the cost of things although in the old days Spain was seen as a cheap holiday today it appeared the same as the U. K. or a bit more!!

Two years ago the Club went to Cyprus quality Athena hotel and I know the organizer is thinking of going again in the 2010 season.

As it's an Indoor Club they tend to go mid to late October, would think Costa Blanca is a bit Cold at that time of year?:D

Having a Bowls Tour in England is very expensive and the weather cant be guaranteed,
When you work out the cost even with the Euro being the same as the Pound Spain is a better choice, we have to play in enough rain give me a bit of Sunshine anytime.

Hi Duck (you must be Quackers)

Only joking, it's the name you know!!

Have to agree the living costs/hotels are about the same if not a bit more
expensive in 'euro land'. The sun is the big plus AND you can before or after the U.K. season!!
Although I do think you will see far less overseas bowling holidays, have been telling my bowling friends that it is £7 per bowler on the one and only bowling green in Menorca that they would never go or pay that sort on money, we do get it cheap in the U.K.
Expect with the handle of 'Duck' you must play in all weathers!!:(

Have to admit £7 a game is a bit steep even on Holiday, if you got the missus thats fourteen pounds plus drinks and if you buy your opponent one, thats a lot of euros,
Pay fifty pence or a pound in England and the rain thrown in still think you cant beat the grass rinks even in the rain and wind makes for more interesting Bowling.

Hi Peter,

Wish I took a photo of the sign, as many at my club just don't believe it!!!

It was 7 euro but as it is around 1 euro to the £ as to make no difference.

If you could see how much the wife drinks after the game it makes it a VERY expensive roll up!

P.S. the drinks are the same as any 4 star hotel so nothing is cheap (large bottle of water at dinner was £3) :(:(

Morning Tourist,

Spain is good in September, lots of Clubs have toured there understand they really enjoy the trip. For me you can play at several different clubs during the tour and of course they all have a bar!!!!

Would think Cyprus is a bit restricted on the number of clubs??

This is what lets Cornwall Down when organizing Club Tours we used to get a really good number, but the last few years they are getting non existing its not only the cost but its only a few Clubs who have a bar, nobody wants to go to a Club where you cant have a drink after a game,

Got to keep up with the Competition

Hi Surfer,

My Club use to have an annual tour to Cornwall, now we don't have a tour!! Our organizer is getting on a bit now ( he wouldn't like me saying that) but he reckoned the trouble was for Cornwall is the Eden project
taking up the Hotels & the Hotel in Newquay that we use to stay in is now a block of FLATS!!!!

Great memories of our tours to your part of the world.

Morning All Bowlers,

Our organizer for our next tour called a meeting last night, thinking of going to Tunisia to the Marco Polo Hotel £745 for 2 weeks ALL INCLUSIVE sounds a good price.
Have looked at a couple of reviews of the net all looks O.K.
Has anyone been there???? have never been to Tunisia, whats the surrounding area like??

Would be great for any help, we have to make a decision in a couple of weeks!

Thanks

Hi Tourist,

Have been to Tunisa before and had a great time, Xmas & New Year about 5 years ago!!
We stayed at Hammett Gardens Hotel they had a Bowling green next to the hotel, all the Brits played on Xmas day (lot of non bowlers who had a handicap) Xmas night had a presentation of prises on the beach, wonderful, really competitive games and no one wanted to stop!!!
Outside of the hotel very little going on a lot of fellow holiday makers found the hassle in the markets very intimidating!!!

Sounds a great price would not spend much more money as not a lot to spend it on, Sounds great to me:D

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your help, we had a meeting Friday night with our organizer gave us 3 choices, Tunisa, Spain, Cyprus. They are in order of price, wish he hadn't as you know what bowlers are like 40 people going on tour. '40 views where they want to go.In past years he gives no option and everyone is happy/ Guess because money is a bit tighter he is trying to be fair to everyone, not sure if it helps!!!

My choice would be Spain, Tunisa, Cyprus, will have to wait & see.
Thanks again for your help!!! Will let you know of the outcome.

Hi Everyone,

Just had the post this morning, another choice from our organizer, last 2 weeks in October in TURKEY for £545 half board including the bowling.

Sounds a great price but had a phone call from a fellow tourist and he says the weather can be a bit cool/rainy in late October in Turkey. anyone with any ideas. Thanks:cool:
