View Full Version : Should I go on Selection
I have been approached to see if I will go on Selection for the Ladies, it was brought up that they needed me to stop another Member going on
Selection,
I don't agree with things being arranged before hand, but I understand we have one Lady who insists on having her own way when team
selection comes up, and surrounds herself with people who will vote her way,
This is getting very complicated anyone else been in this situation, hate to say no and feel you have to support your Club
Hi Jean,
It's not a light decision, not sure if I should say this now we are 'Bowls England' have often found in the ladies selection (in trouble now) that a dominant selector can have the 'Queen Bee' syndrome and if you try and rock the boat you can have more problems than you bargained for!!
I stay out of all selection issues or selection committees as you can lose friends etc!! you just can't please everyone!!!

Jean, I say give it a try and find out for yourself if what is said about a person is true.
I have done so in the past and seen people in a different light.
I recently accepted a nomination for a position and was immediatly approached by some people who made it quite clear that they where worried about their own positions if it came to a vote.
One has since withdrawn.
Remember you can always resign if you think its not for you.
Good advice Umpire if we all backed away from these positions no body would bowl,
Recently someone asked me to go on selection, I found out later that I was third choice, because the others had refused, that made me feel wonderful.
Lot of Politics go on and some Players only do this job to make sure they get into games, Am still sitting on the fence and waiting to see if they ask number five and I can get out of it.
Sam short for Samantha

Even though I sort of agree with the umpire, I still thing you should think a lot about it.
A thought if you hadn't been asked to go on the Selection commitee, would you want to?

HI Jean,
this is a great post as I have been asked to go on selection Again
did it once and was surprised at the way bowlers take is so personal!!
'Still someone has to do it and in a way agree with Umpire and Kiwi Bowler
give it a go if you really want but you do need a thick skin!!!
I'm going to give it another go as I think i have developed that thick skin and a committee is seen to pick the team now which I think helps a great deal:D:D

At the moment there is one person going round our club trying to find someone to put up against me because their nominee has pulled out. Anyone will do as long as it's not themselves. It's very entertaining.
