Hi teesee,
Agree as well great to see a post from Spain!!! Hope the site picks up that there is a need for a 'Spain' site!!
Are all your Greens artificial or any grass???
Played at Villamora in Portugal a few years ago on grass, quite heavy due to a lot of watering!!!8-)

With respect TEESEE unless there has been a massive influx of bowlers in the last year or so I think that your 3/4,000 is a little bit high. Even though the Swallows are now returning and there has been an increase of new clubs on the CB and Almera.
By the way geographically speaking Finca Guila is in Benidorm is it not.
El Cid lovely club, nice people bowled there many times ( just like FG )
ps hows your membership now that the axe is due to fall on Albir.
Hi Teesee,
Great to hear from a Spanish bowler, also went on a bowling tour of Northern Spain a few years ago, bowled at El Cid/Benitachell and a couple others but the names escape me at the moment 'must be age'!!!
We really had a great time, do remember part of the deal with each club that a meal and a drop of wine was included after the match. What also struck me as the bowlers that live there mostly ex pats were quite white and live in the shade, whilst us mugs on holidays were panic tanning and burnt!!!!!!!!
Have a mate who has one of those Villas on the roof of the world at Monte Pego, truly fantastic place they don't bowl but do drink a bit!!!!!
Look forward to your posts:)
Really love Spain been on holiday there so many times, must be lovely to be able to bowl without worrying too much about the weather,
Often wondered do you bowl all year round or do you have some months where you close the greens,

Hi. Are you Cheshirebased?
Did you once live here?
Yes we are in Benidorm but 3 miles from the centre near Alfaz del Pi.
You will never find us if you look in Benidorm.
We took in 58 new members on Sept. 10th and another 18 today. We now have nearly 180 members on our books at the moment.
I have got a figure of just under 3000, without swallows, on the Costas. On the Islands? I do not know the numbers.
New clubs? Horadada, La Manga, Mazaron & El Rancho (Los Montesinos).

Hi Frankie.
On the Costa Blanca all greens are Carpet.
In the Almeria Region (Mojacar) 4 clubs only one with Carpet.
Costa del Sol I think they are all Carpet but I may be wrong.

Hola Tee Cee that cb fellow you are refering to is on the jh forum. He did live there once and is allways saying that the only thing he misses is bowling in the sunshine in the Winter.
Costa del Sol according to Biwling in Spain have a mixture of Carpet and Cesped. By the way you have overlooked the finest grass bowls green in Spain, La Manga. Keep your head down at the next VBBA meeting if you attend.8-)

Hi Homebase & Umpire,
Had a roll up on La Manga 'grass' about 12 years ago, when Gaza was playing football for U K as we stayed in the same hotel a couple of days after they left. It was when he danced on top on the piano which was in the papers!
Anyway the grass was so heavy, that those that had ever bowled before had quite good games as it was just a BIG BIG throw!!
They watered it quite a lot so lush and green, it might have improved in recent times?:(

Yes it is a little bit heavy although the members might not agree woith you. When La Manga anounced their entry into the CBBA Southern League in 2007 there where some players from the South of Alicante clubs that tried to get them stopped from competing.

I heard the reasons given for you not entering the leagues were that the traveling time and the cost of drinks were to much. Also people that had never bowled on grass found it impossible to reach the head.:roll:Keep smiling.......

10-19-2009, 10:17 AM
Hi Homebase,
Can understand the difficulty in reaching the head as I said 12 years ago expect the green had not been rolled in then but it was extremely hard to have any sort of bowling action other than a throw!!!
How do you find things in Spain these days we have some friends back from the ususal 2 weeks holiday and they felt everthing was so expensive that it seemed everthing was a rip off???
Could be the tourist areas or the pound against the euro?????
Hi all you Spanish bowlers,
My club is thinking of putting a tour to Spain next year, also some people are worried about the euro and how expensive it is now, is that the case or as usual worring over nothing!!!!???
Your views would be helpful , thanks:D

When the Euro first came out it was quoted as 1.70 to the £ but fell to 1.54 in the first week. When I left Spain in October 2007 it was 1.43.
If only the UK goverment had embraced the Euro we would not be in the state we are today.

It must be you Bert!!!!!!
It is 1.0!!! now mabe 8 ie 1.08
As I live in Spain, my choice, I change Pounds to Euros at a rate that is less than when I moved here. The Spanish see no difference in their money except what they are charged over the counter. I just get on with it and go where I get value. Why worry about something you have no control over.
You cannot take it with you!!!
Viva and all that.

Tony, I am well aware of the geographical location ( Costa Calida ) of La Manga but when they put in their application to join the COSTA BLANCA BOWLS ASSOCIATION the then CBBA President ( the charming S,C. ) checked with the Tourist office and was told that La Manga was on the C.B. At the time I believed the " Lady ". Surely she was not wrong, was she.

Down in Cornwall One Club who over the last two years has lost nearly half its members they have joined other Clubs,
No body is really sure why but rumor has it there is one person who has taken over and upsets players, with people falling out and shouting matches going on,
Often wonder if its worth all this hassle for a game of Bowls

99.99% of bowlers in Spain are great but you always get the odd one or two.:roll:
Yes seek advice but it is "who has the green & complex that suits your needs". :p
Know a lot of the complaints I have heard from Bowlers who have had Touring Holidays in Spain, is that they insist you have a three course meal at the end of the game with wine, by the time you have full breakfast and evening meal its like you are being force fed, and there is no way they will take no for an answer and only have tea and biscuits, Is this still the case or have things changed,

I can only speak of the Costa Blanca up to 2007. Some clubs do insist on the after game meal but some clubs do not ( Finca Guila did not. ) If the tour operators speak to the CBBA tour co-ordinator usually other arrangements could be made.
I think Tee See and Homebase may be able to bring us up to date or they could ask the current co-ordinator to come on the site.

Sounds a bit like the U. K. clubs you always seem to get the odd one, often when selection comes around!!
Should have moved to Spain when it was 2 euros to the £, not sure if I could make the move now pension is also paid in pounds!!!

Everything is changing in Spain, Meals are not obligetry anymore, normaly a meal is taken if a coach ride is involved, purely because of time without food. These are now one plate meals at 5 euros. Sensible I think. Umpire is right tours should speak to CBBA organisers......Keep Smiling...

Hi Terry,
We toured with several clubs that banded together, it was arranged wilt Kwik Travel (not sure of the spelling) had a bowling tour guide with us, his name was Dave, a big man who had just got married at the time!
It was in the second half of September, the weather was still good & the sea was warm although do remember loads of jelly fish. Still can't have everything!!:cool:

Hi Angel Read all your messages just now, don't bury your bowls, just plug away, it will all come together soon enough, had the same problems when I played for the first few years. Won Costa Balnca singles champion of champions last year (2008) won the fed. Presidents cup 2 years before that and won the first round of club singles today, still going in the mens pairs, mix trips, mix pairs and other odds and ends. Play as much as you can, practice makes perfect. (it helps when you play outdoors in 28c)
