Had a Lady from my Club play in the National Semi Final, her opponent was holding 20 shots and our girl 18.
She had one wood to play and asked the marker what the position was and she said you are holding three, that would have given her the game,
She didn't throw up her last wood and they shook hands and picked up the mat etc,
When they went up to the head Our Lady was one shot down, and her opponent claimed the game,
Both players heard the marker tell her she had three shots, after the game the marker insisted she hadn't said this.
Where does this leave our Lady lot of bad feeling going round the Club,

Hi Surfer,
Good post, & what a mess, I would say normally that the marker is only a guide and it's up to the player to visit the head to make there own decision!!
In this case you have the opponent shaking hands and congratulating the potential winner.
My view despite this apparent conceding the game the marker is only a guide, it is a most unfortunate situation to happen on this end which effected the outcome of the game!!
It's a great lesson to us all to take the markers statement as a guide only and to visit the head to make your own decision!!!!

I played in a County Game a couple of years ago, I knew the Lady marker I was doing okay and holding my own, I asked her what was the position which is what I was supposed to do,
She said it was a measure I didn't go up and look and threw up my last wood, when I went up I was three down there was no way in this world was it a measure it was clear,
I was so mad it put me off the rest of the game, learned a valuable lesson go up and look if a marker says its a measure don't take her word,
Some nasty people around ????

ALWAYS go to the head yourself!
In my experience, there are any number of people who have NO jugement, whatsoever!!

Hi Keith
Couldn't have said it better myself, someone says measure I go up every time can only blame yourself if you don't go and have a look,

Hi All Bowlers,
Tis the old 'Golden' rule the marker is a guide ONLY, it's up to the individual bowler to visit the head if he/she wants to verify the decision.
On another point I think the only question that should be asked is
'What Is The Position', I do hate the questions 'I am holding 1' REPLY 'No'
I am holding 2 'Reply No' etc, you know what I mean.
Still back to the topic do fell sorry when markers give the incorrect answers or miss read the head.
Thats Bowls,

I would like to hear what the Umpire has to say about what happened.

Morn Kiwi Bowler,
Not sure why you would want an umpire for his view? do you think the Marker is just a guide.
Anyway do agree with you it would be good to have the Umpires view!:(
I learned the hard way, if your not sure of the position visit the head be surprised how far away some of your bowls are from the jack.
