What do you Bowlers think of a County Mens Selector, buying a round of drinks during a league game,
Don't know what to say I was stunned when he order pints of beer and soft drinks,
Is there any rules that say this shouldn't happen
Did seem very wrong as they were beating their opposition felt he was rubbing it in,

I don't think there are any rules against it.

I myself am against it, but I have seen it happen on many an occassion.

Its really bad to encourage drinking during a game, we have had a lot of trouble with younger members not turning up for games on a Weekend because they had been out on the town the night before,

How can you consecrate even after one Alcoholic drink

Hi All, hic hic

Personaly I love to see the opposition drinking because the generally lose!!!! I have seen very good bowlers indoor and out who in my opinion have a 'drink problem', lose games because of drinking during play. If the bag is shut they have there own drinks in a bag!!!!!

Played in the Portugal open at Villamora a few years ago against a top class rink, to my amazement at 10 ends they had a few 'doubles' lined up at the end of the rink and against the run of play we WON and the £1000 first prize!!!!

I think in social bowling there is nothing wrong having a drink but if you are taking it seriously, then there is No chance!!

Would be a good idea if Bowls England did bring out some sort of rule about the consumption of Alcohol when playing competitions and league games,
Seen some very bad examples of players indoors arriving for a County Pairs game,
They must have had about four cans each and I know they are younger and very good players, but it made a mockery of a serious competition,
This needs sorting out,

Cant beat a drink on the end of the rink in a Friendly part of Bowling, we got enough rules and regulations,

Do agree its not good when serious games are being played

Am very Surprised at the behavior of a County Selector who buys his team Alcohol during a league game

Bowls England and some counties ( ( Lancashie has ) a rule that says Smoking and the comsumption of alcohol is not permitted ON the green. Unfortunatly you have players stepping off the green to smoke and drink.
The rule should say " During a match "

As an Umpire I would never consume alcohol before or during a match even when I lived in Spain.

Hi Umpire and Bowlers

In Cornwall we also have a no smoking on the rink rule, but you see players sneaking off for a quick fag,
At least we don't have the pipe brigade puffing smoke around you when playing so things have unproved for the better,
I also think Bowls England should look at bringing in some sort of rule that would ban drinking alcohol during matches

Unless you are a paid professional what is the problemwith having an ale while you play . Don't you have Responsible Service of Alcohol Laws.

Hi Red

Only laws we have on the Alcohol is not serving anyone over eighteen, our Club prices are very cheap,
Have seen more that one Player wobbling up the green but got to say only in Friendlies
Which is great fun

Not sure I would want my Skip having a few when we are playing league, wouldn't happen anyway if any Lady Bowler was to have a drink on the rink it would be the talk of the County,
She would never Bowl in any important competition again

ONE RULE FOR THE MEN ANOTHER For US

Would Love to have a quick drink during a game, but find it hard enough to see one jack instead of two
Come to think of it might improve the Bowling going to give it a try next Friendly

Hello All,

Very interesting debate, in my day it was strictly NO drinking on the 'green' but the Men smoked and how did they smoke.
It is one rule in this new age that smoking is generally banned on the green as I hate the smell and it is so unhealthy.

Must go now for my bottle of Guinness before bed.
