View Full Version : How Long Before Putting Up the Team
Got a call last night from a friend asking me if the Team had been put up for an Important Club game which is being played Friday,
Hubby had already accepted a date for this Friday to play National Mixed Pairs
You wouldent believe the trouble this has caused, with the comment being made that your Club should come first,
If they dont put these games up how are you supposed to know if you are picked,
Will be in the Club Dog House for this

Hi Sam,
It's the time of year unfortunately, with Nationals every 2 weeks and County competitions etc, if you manage to stay in a few, dates are bound to clash especially with the mixed!!!!
The mixed are a problem as ladies tend to play on different days than men which limit free dates.
Its very unfortunate that you still get some Clubs that say club must come first as you always have willing reserves who never get a chance and the club wouldn't develop unless everyone is giving a fair opportunity!!!

Myself, I would still play in the Mixed Pairs as you have already made that commitment.
Also your other half is far more important than the club, who should have given far more notice.

A National Competition has a higher priority than Club, and should always be played first,
Its unfortunate both games are on the same day surly your Club must have reserves,
Good luck with the Pairs game

Selection Committees have got to put games up at least a week before they are due to be played,
An awful lot of people don't live close to their Club and cant afford to be popping down all the time to see if they are picked,
I am always getting people phoning me up to see if lists are up, which means I have to go Popping down,
I am sure they think I dont have anything better to do
This subject is a bit of a sore point with me

Selection needs to sort their act out, two days before a game is not enough time,
In my Club its like the Secret Society, everything is not put up until the last minute,
Ive often wondered if its a power thing, they are in charge and when everyone knows who is in the team,
They have lost control ????

Couldn't agree more Angel,
Accidentally overheard one of the names in a big game which was being picked
When I casually mentioned this person was playing you would have thought it was like the M15 Secret Service
(How Did You Know)
Caused some Fuss never did tell them I overheard selections, left them still puzzled if they had a leak on committee

Our Club is pretty good with putting up games well in advance, its amazing the number of people who put NA up on the friendly lists,
You would think if they put their name down in the first place they would have worked out if they can play or not

Yes, at my current club they ask (on the blackboard) to put your name up if you are available to play or be reserve, then make the decision on the teams.
Also most times they give plenty of notice

Got one Lady Bowler who puts her name down for every friendly, she is one of these strange people who have to get a lot of attention,
And you could set your watch by the phone call, she calls at the last min saying she cant make it, causes no end of trouble
Selection have got to the end of their tether and are no longer picking her for games

Its amazing how many of our club members either never seem to bother coming down to look at the notice boards or if they are down still don't seem to read the boards.Even though notices are always put up well in advance.Half our members probably couldn't tell you what day it is!

Couldn't agree more Howie54,
Its the Club Friendlies that cause the most problems, with players moaning they aren't picked, and when they are not turning up because they don't come down the Club to check,
Am fed up getting last min calls to stand in, they cant expect match Secretary's to keep phoning them up all the time to check when they don't tick their names,

Ive spent most of this week leaving messages on answering machines, trying to get hold of people who I am supposed to be playing in Club
,
One Girl in particular who is the challenger never bothers to look at the board,
Have given up its up to her to get in touch now only so much I can do, but I know I will get the blame in the end,
Often wonder why I bother to enter
