Never come across this before, played a game this weekend on an artificial green it was really windy and raining dreadful conditions,
It was a singles game which was really close we were 20 18 to me, and I was one down and my opponent had shot and another wood in the head,
Went up and had a look, came back down played my bowl and it went into the head and took one bowl out
When I went up to the head the marker told me the wind had moved the jack and I was holding the shot that would have won me the game
But when i played my wood i took one out and turned the my opponants bowl over for shot,
Should the marker have made me aware that I was holding shot and the game
The head did change as I walked back down the green???

Oh by the way I did win the game but it was hard going Angel

Hi Angel

Never heard of this happening before, it must have been a fierce wind to move the jack
Suppose it could be called an act of god, you weren't saying a few prayers by any chance,
Need someone with a bit more knowledge than me, the Umpire might know

Think this is whats called an act of God, not sure if someone should have told you before you played your last wood,

Congratulations on the win

Never heard of the wind moving a jack must have been some windy day, going to ask someone I know who is more (knowledgeable) on these matters, got to be something in the rule book to cover this

Had to look on spell check for this word

I would guess if you had asked the Marker the position before having a look yes. But if you only went up and looked at the head then no.

CMIII Law 53 unforseen Incidents. The players in singles or the skips have the right to replace a jack that has been moved by wind if they agree or the end would be played again if not. An experienced Marker would and should have told you guys the jack moved in this circumstance, but it is otherwise the markers duty to say nothing unless asked and only to answer the quwestion asked, no elaboration or opinion.

Thanks for that mickpacholli, I often mark but this was very unusual shouldn't think it happens much on grass,
But you never know when the unexpected happens, epically when its the middle of August,
Some of the Clubs when the greens have been over used or not watered enough, are like skating rinks,
Will know what to do should the occasion arise

The marker should have told you that the wind had moved the jack.

Unfortunatly there are a lot of people who are willing to mark but have never had any training.

One of the things that suprised me when I returned to England after 10 years abroad was that the EBUA did not have a qualified markers but the Ladies did as do most other countries where bowls are played.

Its only recently that our Club has got two people who are undergoing Coaching classes, its surprising how many Clubs have no trained people with these skill,

How are new members supposed to get the right etiquette and training
