View Full Version : Playing off rink
Hi all you bowlers, played our first league game today, know you will think I am having a moan played away and the green was unplayable sure they put up off rink on purpose,
We have one of the best running greens in the division and have a very strong ladies side dont think its fair that they should play league games off rink

Hi Sam, I take it your team lost? Because you know the condition of the green is the same for the other team too.

It happens here to Sam more with overfast synthetics though. True both sides have to play it but the home side definately has more opportunity to get used to any type of irregularly paced surface.
Yes Chaps we lost big time, was annoyed last night and letting off steam, we have the problem of the men moving the rinks to the best settings in the evening
And the Ladies playing on rubbish settings during the day, our Club plays a bit fairer and tries to let the Ladies have good settings for our league games
Next time we play this Club guess what they are going to be playing off rink
Then when we have a roll up the day before we will have a fair idea where the runs are
Getting crafty all fair in Love and War :D:D

Hi Sam,
Whilst I understand what you are saying, would you have said it if you had won??
I always say it is the same for both sides, the main issue is when playing at home your settings must be consistent, so if they are a challenge, you should know and overcome them better than your opponent!!

Hi Sam, yes it is an advantage to the home side, but you just have to be positive next time;), that you can beat them.

Sorry I have to say this but its the same for everyone, you have got to concentrate and find the lines,
I hate playing on artificial as the one or two that are in Cornwall are small and they can only play one way
The members there know every little twist and kink and it the changes to the surface are so different from grass,

Hi Surfer,
We don't have any artificial in our area, I would be quite concerned if I had to play any County games on it, as I just take time to adapt!!
When I go indoors for the first few games I'm the one always finding the ditch!!!!

Going to have to eat my words on this one, our Club had decided to keep the same rinks for the mens league usually they put them on different settings and members have been complaining that there is no home advantage
Played on the new chosen settings and I was pulling my hair out, thats any thats left Got beaten big time not one of my team could find the green am hoping its only one of them games
Think I should keep my big mouth shut

I have got to play on Sunday afternoon and have drawn the short straw and am playing four wood singles, in Top Team
Its one of the few artificial outdoor greens in Cornwall and because of the width of the green cant be moved to play across
Think I have been picked for singles because nobody else is mad enough to do it,
Snapper:roll::(
Will try and get a few pictures
Hi Snapper
Sure your Club selection committee, picked you because they think you can deliver, and win but I'm sure you will try
Cant ask any more that that hate single myself feel more comfortable playing in a team
Good Luck with your game

Hi Snapper,
You just might be underestimating yourself, singles is so important in these types of games as it's 1 point per discipline and if you lose the singles the team is under substantial pressure!!!!!
So it might be recognition rather than no one wants to do it!!!
