Too Old to Skip

Our first Mining league game was dreadful got absolutely hammered we have a couple of Skips who are well into the Seventy's Plus

They have been on committee for years and been very good players in their day but with the wet heavy greens it was embarrassing they

are not capable of getting woods up the green

You can hear the muttering among the members thing is the Club Captain picks the teams and he is one of them, we will get players leaving if

this carries on

Question surfer, when the greens are fast instead of wet and heavy, how do they bowl?

They are both good players on fast greens and quite skillful but we get so much rain right thought the Summer

Its the other younger members who are getting fed up a Skip needs to be able to reach the head

They are Super Chaps and no one wants to hurt their feelings,

I think we should be more tolerant to our Older Members, they are the ones who have kept the Club going
Someone asked me if I thought if they should be an age where players should stop playing league and play only friendlies
You want to try and win our Club Singles the so called Oldies win hands down every year,
Great to see some of the top younger Bowlers taken down a peg or two stops them getting Big Headed

If they are wearing supports on their elbows or knees you will be lucky to get two shots, played a Lady last year felt sorry for her she looked like she could hardly walk came onto the green with a stick
But my God could she play she got a new lease of life after the first end still don't know what hit me still trying to work out if she was putting it on,

I have noticed Players who Skip are usually more forceful with their views, and its not always their Bowling ability that gets them playing this position
They are just too stubborn to give in Snapper:roll:

Hi All,

I think some of our excellent aging servants of bowls who have kept the sport alive unfortunately because of EGO etc still consider themselves to be 'A' team players but hold up our younger and more talented players to the extent some leave the sport.

As soon as you mention about steping down to the next team the first thing they do is jack the invaluable job in that they are doing and no one else want's to do!! bit of blackmail really!!

Anyone know of a good solution !!!!!!!!!!!??????????

I have been trying to get those players are passed their prime to take on a mentor role with up and coming younger players. Ask them to teach the younger players how to play bowls. All to often their experince just disappears because they are toooo proud, use their ego ....,,,

Glad you brought this up Bundyboy, they have been doing a big programmer training people on Coaching think Bowls England had something to do with it,
One of our more Senior Skips is at present doing this, it has given him a whole new outlook can see him walking around feeling very important,
Best think that could have happened am only hoping some more senior players will get interested and take a back step on playing in the teams
