Is there any rule about someone playing too Slowly got one Chap and he takes forever to pick up and deliver his bowl
Its like slow motion with him repeating some actions, I was marking his game and we had one player who actually lifted his wood and pretended to crown him with it
The crowd thought it was hilarious but not the thing to do,
Anyone know of any Rule to Cover THIS
Hi Peter,
Not seen any rule to cover this, we have exactly the same type of player in our area.
He takes ages to pick up the wood, then it starts, he looks at the jack, has another wood, lines up has a think, then takes ages to send the wood it's way!!!!
Have seen him beat some very accomplished bowlers in singles as they lose patience behind him, pulling faces etc they just lose their concentration!
Use to be funny unless you are playing against him.

Yes I think we all have played against one of these people at some time.
If you are playing in a round robin competition you can always ask the controlling body i.e. The Organisers to have a word or check their competition rules as they may have a rule or are willing to take action in the interests of the competition.
I have umpired and played in competitions where individuals have been refused visits to the head etc.
Another ploy of course is questions to the marker where a player asks the marker the several questions before bowling.
Mind you if you do not know the person use a little caution as they may have a genuine problem like illness.

Hi The Umpire,
Good point about the illness angle, we all have to be careful at times, we have all played against the characters who interrogate the marker just to wind the opposition UP!!!!

Hi The Umpire,
I know of a number of players who use this tactic as a game plan to bet other players. I recently played in the semi final of the pairs and on the end that I had to play first I would walk promptly up to the mat only to turn around and see him half way up the green walking towards the mat. I realised it was a tactic but it didn't phase me, speaking to another player after the gamehe told me that the same player gets very upset if he has to pick up the matafter each end. Next time I play him I run up the gren after my last bowl and make him pick up the mat.

Some Bowlers will use anything in the book to win, I played in mix fours against a County Skip
His lead would play her wood and he would give her some comment then it would be my turn he would wait until I had the wood in my hand and ready to deliver then he would shout up something else, my game went to pot,
In the end my Skip had to have words, and it got quite heated by this time your consecration has gone
This Skip played for his County he knew exactly what he was doing sad day to stoop to this sort of tatic:roll:

When their bowl comes to a stop the mat is your's, so first I would have had a word to her, then if it still happened I would have complained to the Umpire.

Hi Crabie, yes we understand this, but it's not bowlers like yourself doing it that we get annoyed with - but the ones trying to slow the game down to put one off.

DR14 Delaying Play
1 If the umpire, either by their own obsevation or on appealfrom one of the skips or the opponents in singles, decides that a player is deliberately delaying the delivery of a players bowl:
. On the first occasion the umpire will warn the player
. If the player commits the same offence a second time the end will be regarded as completed and the opponents will score as many shots as there are bowls in use by such opponent.
. If the player offends a third time the game will be forfeited to the opponent.
Does your version of the Crystal Mark III have any Domestic Regulations?

Unfortunatly No such domestic rule exists in England. The only time you would find a rule for this would be if the organisers i.e. Controlling Body were to include it in their competition rules. In extreme cases an umpire could invoke Law 54 but would have to have a strong case.
Hi The Umpire & mickpacholli,
Good debate, whilst I would welcome a rule in the U.K. for slow playing as a form as poor sportsman ship, the problem as I see it is of 'perception'
slow to one Umpire could be deemed as normal to another.
Umpires who do a great job and invaluable to our game' would put another but of pressure on to a job which is already very difficult!!

G'day ET,
The issue arises most I have found when games are close, and towards the end of the game/match a skip will actually stop, or stop one of his players, and watch the next rink result before he decides what shot he has to play.
This is cheating under our domestic regulations, but it happens a lot, but most who play this game have never actually read the rules of the game:roll::D:D, so would be unaware of any breach.
Yeah Umpy, Law 54, drawing a long bow, but if they were fair dinkum they would give the offender a rap across the knuckles, if not award the win to the oppo.(bit harsh i know)
Hi The Umpire G'day mickpacholli,
Good to hear that it's just not me that think it's cheating!!!! it really winds me UP!!
I do have a bit of a smile when the skip who has been cheating then chase the game and makes a 'right pigs ear' of it, I do give a bit of a mocking clap (shouldn't really).
Unfortunately it's the bowlers who should know better and don't need to cheat that do it.!!!
That's Bowls,

Looking at law 54, I don't know how you could prove it?
But I would like to know if there's any domestic rules in NZ like Micks DR14 Delaying Play, because it would be very useful;)

I don't think we have any rule that I know about dealing with this, know a few men who will walk up the side of a rink and stand about half way up, to distract the person on the mat
This has now been banned now but I'm sure some player will think of something else to put a player off his game
Sam:(
