Now I know that this must sound daft but ... I have been getting leg pains especially after bowling (indoors lately). My (expesive) physiotherapist says that the pain, in my trailing leg, is probably caused by repetitious strain of bowling. I have experimented and the leg eases if I stop bowling.
I now take anti-inflamatories, wear a waist support belt and use a metal thingy to pick up my bowls.
I have noticed several other bowlers limping.
I am 65 and not at all fit.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so what i sthe best cure?

Hi Dave join the Club had the most awful pain down the leg, really thought it was something serious, I have been taking tablets for blood pressure and statins for colesteral
So dragged myself down to the Doctors which I hate, had all the usual tests, and you guessed it, he put my leg right up in the air, and did I howl
He gave me a leaflet but not a lot else and told me to go and exercise, I came out the surgery shaking my head, I guess he has never played three games of 21 ends, bending down walking etc, took me an awful long time to recover
Dont think playing Bowls has anything to do with It as I have a number of friends who have it and they do nothing else but sit and watch the tele
If anyone has got any tips would love to know
Do let us know how you get on
I am putting all my ailments down to old age, thats what I keep telling myself tried Golf but damaged the shoulder and had to have an operation,
So started Bowling and wished I had taken it up years ago, have heard this said by so many people
We do see a lot of players with wrists and knee supports, and its the joke round the club because the number of times I have got beaten by someone wearing one, keep telling my team mates I am going to get one
Got my wish last year and had a lot of trouble with my knee it was so painful
I know I should do something to get fitter, but I hate exercise

When I first start playing bowls I got pain in the back of my legs, saw the Doctors then sent to a ..... (can't remember what they are called).
Anyway they told me my pain was caused because I had flat feet? So I had a plaster mould of my feet made, so they could get inserts made especially for me, to put in my shoes.
That was about 12 years ago and they seem to work, these days I see you can buy inserts for your shoes in the chemists here.

Oh I must apoligise dave think my eye sight is going along with the rest of me, I have had another look at your post and I thought you said, Sicatica which was what was wrong with me, its a trapped nerve around the back which causes pain all down the leg.
You have got somethig entirely different did your Doctor recomend that you kept the weight off your leg
An awful lot of bowlers as well as anybody that has a sport are very vunerable to these kinds of injuries, might be better as its nearly the end of the Indoor Season to give your knee a rest and try and keep the weight off it,
Do you play outdoors in the Summer:rolleyes:

Hi Kiwi Bowler
Intersting about you having to get insteps made for your shoes, looks like they work which make life easier,
Have a Bowling friend who has something called Lupis and he has to have special shoes made, not really sure what it is or how it effects him
I expect you are feeling a bit at a loose end, now that you are not rushing off to work
I find I dont know where the day goes it takes me all day to do nothing we are having l lot of Sunshine now I think the spring has finally arrived
It makes everyone feel a lot better

Hi Dave,
Just read your post, I use to have all sorts of trouble in my 30's with back pain and as you say can be very expensive.
I remembered what one of the first ciropracter said is that you need to 'GET FIT', so I ignored his advice!!
Then one day we were going on holiday parked the car at the airport and could not close the car boot, so on return of the painful holiday, bought a ski machine, set up a T.V. at the end, put aside an hour a day, and for last 20 years have had NO problems. worked for me and i know how painful it can be.
Best of luck,
Bargin Hunt:grin:

Yes I do bowl outdoors as well but I'm going to bowl less this year.
The curious bit about it is that the problem is with my trailing leg - I'm right handed so it's my right leg. Thanks for the advice about keeping my weight off it, but most of my (excessive) weight goes onto the other leg during the bowling routine.
I will put soem effort into getting fitter.
And perhaps I'll learn to type ...
