Have just been reading this article

Teignbridge Indoor Bowls Club is being sold to new owners who have plans to turn the facility into a Gym by August
and includes a fitness club and gymnastics center
(It is close to being sold)
the site has been vacant since it was sold to new owners by Teignbridge Council toward the end of 2007

Don't Forget Bowlers we pay the wages of these Councils and as taxpayers we in effect own these premises

If you look at the Council in Cornwall bringing in car parking charges for a local Bowling Club, which might be forced to close because of the extra cost

Bowling Clubs Beware is your Council eying up the valuable land that your club is built on
Belonging to a Bowling Club is a lifeline for many Senior Members keeping them fit and active be such a shame if we let them close them :confused:

Any Council owned Bowling Greens should Beware ,

We have been hearing from quite a few that Councils who used to take responsibility for cutting the grass and maintaing the club surrounds Are

now putting the responsibility and the expense unto the Clubs which for smaller clubs with few members could mean closing

To get a green managed can cost thousands

Makes You Wonder What the Motives Are :(

I do know Clubs which are owned by Local Councils have to pay rent, and a lot of them are situated in Parks so when the Parks are getting cut etc they would do the greens at the same time,
Telling Clubs they have to take over the maintenance is another way of saving money
I think if I belonged to one of these I would be more worried about the increase in rent:(

The clubs on council land here that I know - don't pay rents, so maybe that's why they do all the maintenance and pay all there own expenses - rates, power, water, phone etc

Hi Kiwi Bowler,

We were similar up to a couple of years ago, paying a peppercorn rent of £1 a year.
I think under U K government directives of making everything commercial, our Club now pays £2,500 in rent to the council AND have to maintain
the green.

It's just a reflection that to live in the U.K. you get clobbered on ever thing!!!

Did not realize that the system you still have was so good.
