A few years back our Club started to pay a member to cut the green as no one else would take the job on.
It worked for a while but then he started to take advantage, phoning other members asking if they would do it for him, not turning up when anything needed doing like fertilizing etc
Got a catch twenty two no other member will help out because this chap is getting paid he is quite an aggressive personality, and I think the Committee members are scared of him, they did draw up a works rota last year, to see if it would sort the problem ???? did it heck
He would turn up half an hour before a County Competition and get the Mower out or Worse still not cut it at all.
Our club is stuck as no one else will take this job on.

Hi Sailor never heard of a Club paying a member to cut the green, we have always had a green cutting rota for the men, who volunteered to do the job
Our Club couldn't afford to pay this it takes all our funds to pay for a firm who does all the spraying and testing and green maintenance
Think your Club needs a meeting or you are going to have another unsettled year

Cant start paying members to do jobs, where would it end think in a very big club that can afford a bar steward its not a bad idea

If Members aren't prepared to do the work they shouldn't be Bowling and enjoying being a club member:(

Hi All Bowlers,

It has always been an issue (apart from running a substantial bar) if you start paying members to do jobs around the Club you end up with resentment amongst the members and they will not lift a finger out of principle.
You often find when a Club stops these payments a big wave of volunteers come forward and it brings the club together!!!
The exception is a very busy Bar, ie one that is open several days of the week, then I do think payments to a Steward is acceptable.:p

A Club should never start paying members, it can cause all sorts of problems I know its sometimes difficult to get people to take on certain jobs,

at my Club we get round the problem by having groups of members who take responsibility for green cutting etc and they work out a rota

So far this has worked
