Have been telling my friends that I am going to do what every other Bowler did to me last year and run up the Green after my Woods
I think they look ridiculous and waiste a lot of energy, but it seem that Selectors are looking for the more aggressive players
A lot of these players talk a good game and do put some Players off
My Question is a lot of Clubs have large signs saying NO RUNNING ON THE GREEN
Which Bowlers seem to ignore If I don't run after my Wood I wont be able to get to the head before my Wood
These Players never seem to get told off, should I break the rules and join them, all that running might make me fit
Snapper:D:D
Have been thinking the same thing might try running up after my woods but not sure if I'm fast enough think I need to go out running before I try

Running after your woods should be banned, it makes a game twice as long It is another Tactic that players use to slow down play, now that
standing on the next rink on a players eye line has been banned
I think the Bowls England should look into this practice

If a Club has a Sign up Saying No Running On The Green
Players should follow the rules Green keepers do not go to the expense and trouble of doing this without a reason
The most expense in a Club is the maintenance of the green, and players charging up and down causing damage don't do it any favors
Running after woods should have been banned years ago:confused::confused:

Played against one chap in a competition last year he ran up the green after nearly every wood
I played him at his own game and ran up with him sure the crowds found it funny we must have looked ridiculous he was a lot shorter than me
It did the trick he got fed up and stopped he was a Bowler who won an awful lot of games, sure this tactic helped him win
Oh by the way I did beat him ????? :D

Hi The Duck seen this happen before, but some players will do anything to win I often wonder if they don't use up all their energy , know I would be Knackered and crawling around on the green if I started this business of chasing my Woods
Be most embarrassing my Woods never do anything when they get there and probably would be short (look enough of a fool as it is) Surfer
Have been thinking about this subject, does everyone think that men run after their wood more than us girls
Wonder who started this trend or did they always do this in the game of Bowls would be very interesting to see why and when it started

I was born and raised in Crown Green country and on our way home ( walking of course ) from school we used to go to the bowling green to watch the men playing what we called " gerrup you bu--er as they bowled a bowl and ran up after it. Usually they were puffing on a Woodbine and holding on to there flat caps with one hand and waving the other one at the same time.
Perhaps its a Northern thing that has spread throughout the bows world.

Being taken to school in posh car, I must apologies got that wrong
Have alway thought running after your woods as a Man thing which the Ladies copied at a later date
Interesting Subject for discussion around the bar :D:D

Taken to school in a car, that only happened when Mr Bailey the truancy officer caught you wagging it. 6 whacks from the Headmaster usually followed.:(
Hi Runners,
Always an interesting one, understand the rules say you must arrive at the head before your wood, yet most Clubs have signs saying 'No Running on the Green'.
In my experience find it impossible to get to the head before the wood without running.
Most bowlers who follow their woods up arrive after the wood has stopped making it an illegal wood yet the rule goes on unchallenged!!
Still it's only a game,----try telling that to our GREEN KEEPER!!!!!!
he might have some kind words to say!
Confused John:wink:
Surly its up to the Officials who are in charge, if it say no running on the green then they should do something about it
Our green keeper goes crazy if he sees players do this, but when its an important match he turns a blind eye and you see these men running after nearly every wood
And some are no light weights must do some damage, know us Ladies wouldn't get away with it
:(:(

Hi Umpire
That takes me back a few years can still feel my hand stinging, got whacked at primary school had to do an exam and kept lifting the pencel to try and finish
Sure our Headmaster was a monster still remember his name, I was only ten they wouldent let it happen now (still not sure if I deserved it ) :(

I don't think I have ever seen a man challenged about running after his woods the signs No Running On THE GREEN ARE BIG ENOUGH
I played against an opponent last year in a county competition and she annoyed the hell out of me
She kept following her woods quite a way up the green and walking back, so I would be on the mat and she would be walking towards me
I know in hindsight I should have waited until she was right back behind me before getting on the mat
She did beat me :(

If you check the competition rules there may be a rule restricting visits to the head as defined in Appendix 2, A2, in the laws of the game.
Remember that if an opponent follows there bowl even part way down the green it could be regarded as visiting the head because that it what some of them are doing. It may not look so but if you go half way down he green it can be an unfair advantage.
Please remember that Umpires are restricted to what action they can take without an appeal or complaint from a player. If there is one you can always ask their opinion without them taking action if they think that no Law or competition Rule has been broken.

Never thought of it that way this player would have an advantage by going up to get a closer look, and distracting me by coming back down, If this happened to me again I would ask the official to sort it out
Its alway good to know where you stand you don't want to make a fool of yourself and have everyone whispering in the changing rooms
I do know you can look at the head if your not sure what to do:rolleyes:
