Hello Everyone only recentely found World Bowler on Google

We had the final of our Short Mat last night if all the games we played outdoors were as competitive and such fun our Club numbers would double,
It was like watching the contestants on Deal or no Deal everyone was running up and giving each other hugs after a good wood

Why we cant have this sort of atmosphere on the green Food for thought

Hi Sailor Welcome nice to have you join us, I play short mat in the Winter occasionally standing in when they are short,
My team mates take it very seriously and the finals are quite an occasion, always fun might be down to the bar and club prices, wish the finals out doors were played with the same enthusiasm

Hi Sailor good name, know I am being nosy but have you been in the navy by any chance

My husband was in the forces Took up Bowling a while back can get a very additive sport, always think I am going to get better, hasn't

happened so far

Cant really get to grips with playing short mat, have great difficulty keeping my woods on the mat, keep hitting that stupid bit of wood in the

middle, who ever thought that up must have been a sadist should have a swear box down the Club would make a fortune

Oh forgot to say Welcome :D

Hi All,

I just can't get on with short mat or carpet bowls when I'm playing indoors yet some bowlers can!!!!

Agree with many posts just can't control the woods then play indoors I bowl short!

For me it's Indoor only (which apart from outdoor I enjoy the most).

Evening Bowlers, there has been all hell to pay down the Club, it was finals last week and when they turned up someone had taken a set of bowls that was left down in the Club house
Problem was they belonged to the Captain he had forgotten to take them home and he was playing in the Final
Lot of joking going on about getting Shirlock Homes in to track them down
He ( or should i say the powers that be) were not amused quietly fuming or loudly fuming He lost the Final
So far no one has owned up about borrowing them,
We are all waiting with baited breath I personally think they will quietly turn up, Watch this Space

Sounds like someone is in trouble very annoying for your Captain not easy to play a final with strange woods

Hate it when someone borrows something without telling you, had someone borrowed my shoes one year

Was really annoyed shoes are a personal thing couldn't get the idea of someones else's feet in my shoes (UGG COULD HAVE BEEN SMELLY)

used nearly a can of foot freshener on them

Hi Wrong Bias Your Taylor woods look good, bet you cant wait to try them out when you get them,
You've escaped the snow its something we don't get that often and it causes havoc everything grinds to a standstill
Your a brave man going on to the Club Committee, but as one of the threads is saying it might have a few perks
You will have to let us know how you get on, Glad your not buried under a snow drift got it into my mind that Scotland always has snow in the Winter expect it all depends what part you live in
Glad your all right good luck with your new Woods Be intersting to see how they play, Angel:D:D

I leave mine on until i know who is calling epically in the Summer, they only call me when they want me to do something no one else will do
Bit like the Sectary's Job
Oh by the way have you had any Snow yet and did you get a pair of Bed Socks that everyone is talking about:rolleyes:

We start a league about 20th April in the Evenings and it can get really cold, I'm sure my socks Wilek complement my long johns!!!

Hi All,

Good morning U K bowlers, a great weekend made me get the Outdoor Bowling gear out of the shed (where I threw it last September) and gave it a clean, rare for me.

Thought I would make a bit of an effort this year and look a bit more 'Tidy',
so have cleared the grass from the woods, cleaned the off white bowls shoes, and emptied the last 10 years of WHITE chalk what a mess!!!

Had a look at my slightly off white Bowls trousers and decided time for a new pair, any one recommend a place on line that is reasonable???
Decided it was either the trousers or Me that has changed shape in the last 10 years!!!!!!

Am I going to look smart this year!!

Thanks for any help,

E T:wink:

Hi E T glad you had a look at your gear, have just tried on the white trousers, and know what they don't fit
Will have to invest in a new pair but have you seen the price will have to take out a bank loan

Always a interesting Spring Club Meeting???? I find that members bring out all the issues that they have been thinking about since last year
We have one very boring member who insists on discussing all these irrelevant issues and it drags on and on with the seats getting harder
You can feel and hear the members shuffling around, in the end members will vote on almost anything to get the meeting to end and they can escape and go home have seen some ridiculous things carried because people are getting desperate to escape:roll::roll:

Afternoon all you Bowlers from a Sunny Cornwall had our Players meeting Friday night and everything went smoothly sorted out the mens Team Captains usual fund raising issues etc
Think we are going to regret having Amalgamation with the Ladies
THE LADY CAPTAIN stood up and announced that she was putting up a rota for cleaning the Club and that all members in teams of five would have to do it one week in a year
One of our Younger men said he couldn't do cleaning because he worked, and one Lady pointed out if he could find time to socialize at the week end, surly he could find a few hours once a year for his turn on cleaning rota
You could have heard a pin drop
Am keeping very quiet on this subject a Scared Surfer don't want to upset the Ladies :roll::cool:

Sam
03-19-2009, 07:43 PM
Hi I think they should ask for volunteers for a cleaning rota, thats what they do in our Club but only from the ladies
The men do most of the maintains and taking care of the green so it works out all round
Have got one Lady member who feels very strongly that men should do their share of tea duty and cleaning and last year refused to do teas
This did cause a few comments but everything settled down again and carried on as normal, less one Lady on tea duty

mary
03-21-2009, 08:38 AM
Hi Sam think your right its not fair to expect everyone to clean, we have a lot of very elderly Ladies and Gents who are not capable of cleaning
One friend of mine an Ex Sectary in her eighties who is still an active member said to me when we were discussing this subject
I don't clean at home I have someone to help me, I certainly wouldn't be able to clean the Club, she spent a lot of her time in previous years doing her bit so its most unfair for this Club to announce all its members have to take their turn on a cleaning rota
Thats my opinion anyway:roll:

Hi All,

At our Club whilst mainly ladies keep to the traditional roles, but several do get involved in green maintenance IE spiking, cleaning ditches etc.

What I have always struggled to understand, (not even sure if I can say this) women who try to take on men's traditional roles are often very
unhappy, no wonder divorce rates are up!!!!!!!!

We have had a lot of firms closing down, but the majority of people who move to Cornwall to retire have pensions so the recession hasn't hit us too hard yet
But I know some people who rely on their savings, and with zero interest rate they are feeling the pinch
Heres hoping you get another job soon Surfer:cool:

Thanks Surfer, yes I hope I do too as we have a shortfall, so we will have to start using our savings.:(

Hi Kiwi Bowler
Think its the same everywhere we are trying to pretend everything is alright, but a lot of my friends are really worried because they have lost their jobs, There are very few well paid jobs around or anysort of jobs for that matter, its going to be a case of tightening our purse strings and making do
Lets hope everything turns out alright and you quickely find another suitable job

Hi Kiwi Bowler

Have only logged on been really busy, an awful lot of Bowlers are away at the moment for Easter, which leave all the jobs for those left behind,
Did get a shock when I read your post its something which happens to other people getting made redundant, but to be excorted off the premised its like they dont trust you
Have heard of this happening before but not to anyone I know, you and your family have had quite a shock
How are the prospects of you getting another job in your line of work, or will you have to take something else to tide you over.

anyway Let us know how you get on and good luck Angel

Thankshttp://www.julianhainesbowls.co.uk/forum/images/avatars/7963.gifAngel, yes it was a great shock, have tried for a few jobs but no luck and a lot of employers seem to want to employ younger people? But I will keep trying and maybe just get a part - time job?

Hi Kiwi Bowler & All,

I live south of Birmingham in the U K & the recession is biting hear, have not be on he computer at home as had to work away to get a job, but the other hall has been moaning about being home alone so trying to find a 'well paid' job locall!!!, have been working on the oil rigs which is a job I did years ago, great money but hard work ,I think it is an age thing.

One benefit in the U K is that if you have a good look around prices are a LOT cheaper than they were 12 months ago, apart from rip off food prices!

can imagin N.Z. being very difficult for work because of the vast countryside?

At least if things work out will be able to continue with my beloved bowling this year, She moans about that as well!!, at least I am home at night.

Best of luck,

Bargain Hunt:p:p

Hi Bargain Hunt, my father was from Birmingham, then in 1951 came out to NZ for a new life with the family.

Yes lots of shops having specials and closing down sales here, the house market has also come down lots. But house sales last month were the highest for about 6 months and rents are still very high.

We did think about moving back up north to our other home as we had a buyer for our home in Auckland. But the other half's job is very secure and she didn't want to risk it. You know the saying: a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush, so we didn't sell.

Hi Kiwi Bowler,

Is dad still alive? if so would not recognise Birmingham today, so many areas you would not go in, even in daylight!!!, can at times feel like a stranger in my own Country. Your Dad cetainly did the right thing, if I wase't so old would move now, the trouble, rush and tear is just not worth it!!!

What you are saying about New Zealand is about what is happining to the U k a bit of a mini recovery, just hope it carries on.

Off to do some work in the Club before opening day , talk soon,

Bargain Hunt:grin:
