Hi, just been watching TV and saw a program on drink/drugs in sports. It mentioned that alcohol was banned when playing bowls, is this true? Is so hows it everyone is on the beer? It didn't explain any rules.

not banned where i bowl,suppose in international and games on the telly it will be

Really interesting topic, has been a lot of talk in my club, both indoor & out, many think they can play at a decent level , with a hangover or bowl
with a glass on the rink, unfortunatel when we have suffered a key loss
someone has either turned up the worse for wear or drinking during the game, and you guessed it 'they get the blame'.
I have to own up that on one occasion 'I got the blame!!!':(

i cant see how anyone can play when they are knocking back pints and halfs all day,i prefer to wait till the game is over,and then get wired in ;)

Its a strange thing over here its near compulsary (in some clubs) to have a beer in hand, just different game culture I suppose

we are not allowed on or near the green with alchohol,sof drinks are ok,so after 4 or 5 ends (sometimes less)we head for the club house

I dont drink at all before a game - definatley afterwards sometimes too!!
Both after a good or bad game!
I think though that drink ban only applies to those playing at state, national & international level, and they can be tested, for everyone else you are free to do as you wish.

I asked my mate yesterday and if you blow over a 0.1 its a possible 2 year ban from competing. Never worth it.
