Hi Fellow Bowlers
Is it me or has Christmas gotten out of control feel like I'm buying presents for every man and his dog
Raffle prizes for the Christmas Coffee Morning ( presents for under the tree down the club) presents for the ladies Christmas lunch which the men make and pay for
Then there is the Christmas Bingo which all club members are expected to attend
And the Christmas Bottle draw this is the Outdoor Club
Now you have got nearly the same for the Indoor Club
Then Its the Family and the Mother In Law thats it I have had enough am going to hibernate till next spring
DOES ANYONE ELSE THINK LIKE THIS SURFER:cool:
Hi Surfer,
Christmas doing the organizing and shopping can be very stressful, thats what the Wife says!!!!!
Seriously at our club the men seem to organize the stands stalls etc, unfortunately a lot of the shopping falls on the Ladies, the same few every year. Although several other Ladies have tried to get involved in a few things have been 'shunned', by the 'controllers' as we call them.
It is a lot of work but always seems well worth it and sets the Bowlers up for the forthcoming season.
In several cases we not have seen some of the members since closing day last Summer!!
Keep up the good work, it is appreciated,
John:p

http://www.julianhainesbowls.co.uk/forum/images/avatars/7963.gif Love Christmas but hate shopping for presents, find ebay a great way of relieving the pressure of trudging round shops, got some really nice jewelery shops on there alway exciting to see if what you bought look as good as it does in the photo
Back to the Club situation do sympathies with Surfer some Clubs take things a tad too far,get these ideas and forget its the usual few who do all the work and have to buy all the things could do without one or two of the coffee mornings in the run up to Christmas Angel:D

Well Fellow Bowlers sure there must be quite a few members like me who are on their own, a lot of widowers and widows take up bowling for the social side as well as the sport,
I dread the holiday period if it wasn't for the things that the Club put on It would be a miserable Christmas am really glad I joined my Club makes all the difference
I love Christmas but think that Clubs try and do too many things, we have our Christmas coffee morning on Saturday and the dinner and dance in the evening
A lot of people cant cope with going to both not because of the expense but physical its a lot to ask of pensioners,
Would think the committee would think about this before arranging the dates :(
Hi All,
I think Bigbear is so right that for people on their own holiday periods like Christmas can be a desperate lonely times. Social/Sports clubs like Bowls really come into their own and are often not fully appreciated for the support friendship it brings to the Community.
Well said Bigbear maybe just talking about it will bring people closer together??
John
When you got lots of grandchildren Christmas is Great, buying the presents is tricky,
but the Wife starts early and it makes everything a lot easier only problem is they keep changing their minds
But when Christmas morning comes they are so excited I don't think it matters what they have got, think I am very lucky but poor Gramdad:D:D

Hi Pops you are very lucky, but not everyone has a family
with the age range in my Bowling Club there are an awful lot of people who have lost a partner
They move down to Cornwall to retire and then one of them takes ill and the partner usual the Wife is left on her own
Our Bowling Club puts on more things at this time of year to make sure members are not too isolated over the Christmas period
And it is much appreciated
Hi Bowlers,
Today is our traditional day when me & the wife do our Xmas shopping, finish work at Noon. STRESSFUL well it normally is, not only have I been drafted in as last minute desperate reserve tonight to Bowl, so many STRESSED out shoppers.
No where to park the car, if there was a car space becoming vacant half a dozen hopefuls edged there car inch by inch trying to dominate.
We managed to park illegally in a residential zone, then the hustle & bustle of the shops, we really enjoyed it (NOT).
Once we had filled our pathetic few bags with the usual rubbish then the Kami-Kazi drive home, road rage, tailgating the lot.
Looking forward to a bit of bowling tonight, might try that FIRING I have been reading about. Ho Ho HO
P S Can't wait to the January sales!!!!!

Happy Shopping

Good Morning Bowlers
Got the Christmas Coffee morning at ten, love this one it is really good fun lots of mince pies and you always get a good turn out
Hate the rest of these Coffee morning during the year you end up taking the raffle prizes and wining them back
But all the girls wear father Christmas hats and dress up a bit not sure if the men enjoy these mornings but get dragged along
Usually see them grouped up in little huddles gossiping so perhaps they do
Angel
Hi Angel the men are terrible gossips a lot worse than women, you want to have a listen after a game outside the mens changing room
If I had a tape recorder I could blackmail a few with what they say, me and my friend (accidentally) just happened to be standing outside their changing room we couldn't move for laughing not going to tell you what they were talking about but it was hilarious :D:rolleyes:
