Hi Fellow Bowlers,

A few weeks ago our Clubhouse was burgled, not a lot stolen apart from three Bowls Bags. Not worth a lot if you don't bowl but a considerable amount if you do!!!!

The Burglars obviously got fed up caring the 'Swag' as the Bowl bags were found intact with all the equipment in a hedge!!

Police were quite quick investigating but as yet no arrests.

A lot of discussion is going around about insurance excess etc. Does the Club cover them under the Club insurance some Clubs have a disclaimer on the wall stating NO LIABILITY in any way, does any one know of the general position of cover.

Look forward to hearing from you,

John:p

Have often wondered about this I had assumed that all your Bowling equipment would be covered if left in the club house

But now not so sure

If you work out the cost of replacing everything it adds up to a few hundred pounds

Shall have to make sure I take everything home

Sure the air must have been blue :D:D

If I thought my wood were covered by the insurance might leave them out and hope some tea leaf nicks them on a serious note I don't think they would be, but not sure
Good Question this Surprised our club hasn't put a notice up about this got one for everything else place is covered with them

Hello John and fellow posters,

As always with insurance, I don't think that there is an essy answer, some of the issues are;

Some Clubs have limited cover some don't,
What if they aren't locked away in the changing room,
What if you are playing in an away game?
What if they are stolen from the car.

Have always been given to understand, and how I insure my woods are covered, is to insure your bowling equipment as an extension of the house contents insurance policy. Some contents policies have this extension automatically included.
Also understand the third party public liability is also extended to the sport/hobby, so if someone was to trip over your negligent placed bowling bag and claimed for injuries against you, there would be cover.

Sorry it's not a quick easy answer suppose the best thing to do is to discuss it with the company that insures the house contents.

Well said John,

Reckon best place to get gear nicked is from the car!!

Most bowlers are honest folks, main problem when the go to pack up, in my Club we have a doddery few who will pack up everyone else's gear into their bag but their own
They don't play for another week and in the meantime ain't heared all the appeals for lost whites; 1 wood, left shoe etc !!!

P.S. Still we all get there one day, (then they have the cheek to nearly beat you on the 'Green')

Hi Bowlers,

Just like to thank you for this info, had my Bowling gear stolen from my car last week together with some tools etc from the Boot.

This has been most helpful, have looked at this site most days just Registered today.

P.S. Am trying to claim for my bowling gear under the car insurance, trouble is have a £50 excess, lose 2 years no claims, would not have been worth it if they had not done so much damage getting into the boot.

Will be insuring my bowling gear under the House contents insurance in the future.

Thanks

Crikey Bargain Hunt what a thing to have happened you get a lot of break in about this time of year but it is very worrying, Have been giving this subject a lot of thought I always leave my wood in the car and we have had a lot of cars broken into in the village car park
One Lady came out and they had drilled into her petrol tank caused a lot of damage
Going to put mine on the house insurance that way they will be covered and I can stop worrying

Yes has made me think, our club has a notice up that they are not covered by the clubs insurance.
So I don't leave my bowls there, I keep them at home or in the car. And as they are now over 10 years old they would not be covered by my home contents insurance.
So maybe I will buy some new bowls next season:p, who knows

Hi All,

Goes to show reading this site and talking to fellow bowlers most Bowlers leave all the gear in the boot.
I try to lift it out most nights and upset the missus , by blocking the hallway. I tell her it costs a fortune in petrol just to transport them around to and from work every day.

Had my gear nicked a few years ago when it was in the car & car was nicked as well, claimed under the house insurance. Now that was a good time to get all new gear!!! you should see my bright RED woods.

Hi Frankie wish someone would nick my car its falling to pices, thats why no one has ever taken it
If my bowls bag was in the boot and that was the only thing taken not sure if claiming on the insurance would be worth it
Would have to work out how much extra I would have to pay on my insurance

Will have to take more care of my Bowling gear, you never think anyone would steal it, but everything is worth money these days

Its going to get worse with the credit crunch good to talk about this shall look into putting mine on the house insurance, when you add

everything up it comes to a tidy sum:rolleyes:

God thats dreadful Frakie you hear about people getting their cars stolen but you forget about the things that could be in them
Have got very attached to my woods would be a big blow if I were to get them stoled
Its the inconvenience of getting a replacement car and all the hassle with the insurance having a good think about what I am going to do about the issue Angel:D http://www.julianhainesbowls.co.uk/forum/images/avatars/7963.gif

Hi All,

Pleased, about 6 weeks ago had a good clear out of the Car, after watching one of those T V programmers on how to save petrol!!!!

I reckon all the weighty tool gear etc that came out the car I'm saving £15 a week in petrol how silly driving it all around the County every Day.
Now I leave my bowling gear in the garage. although more secure still a risk to theft.

Hi E T know I am getting past it never thought of reducing the weight in the boot to make savings on the petrol

Told the Wife I cant take her shopping until she sheds a few pounds because of the extra petrol I would have to use

Not going to tell you what she said its unprintable but haven't chuckled so much for a long time think I'm in the doghouse for Christmas:(

Just a thought what do you guys pay for petrol. Over here a couple of months ago it was $1.70 a litre( 4.5 times a litre equals a gallon). It is now $1.05 a litre. We still have lots of big engines cars. The traditional family car is around 3.8 litre engines. Small cars around the 2 litre engine. My inlaws live in the country about 450 klms away and it takes around 4 hours to get there. They live in New South Wales. Costs around $50 each way to get there and back. I have a subaru forrester (2.5 ltr engine )

Hi Bundyboy,

Like the post, petrol is a big slice of any spare money these days. I'm lucky enough to live in Cornwall surrounded by great surf but a fair bit of traveling between 'Greens' & matches.

One of the downside of this great place to live is the lack of industry hence low wages, so traveling around the County has always been an issue.
Ever since I have been bowling (20 years) traveling and car sharing has always been the natural thing to do, each passenger chips in with a 'Club' suggested amount , these amounts are reviewed annually and on the notice board.

Sounds like your petrol price has been a bit like ours, all over the place, at it's height it was around £1.25p + a liter at last it is now under a £1.
Big suppliers of petrol around here is the supermarkets generally if you spend over £50 you get a voucher for 5p a liter off next time you fill up.

Sounds like it is expensive to see the in laws!! around Cornwall there is a great mixture of small & large cars jeeps etc.
I use to have a 2.5 Landrover but the price of petrol you just could not enjoy going out, kept thinking about how much it was costing. Changed to a Citroen 1.6 really small but great on the pocket!!!
Just about get me surf board on the roof!!!!!

Hi surfer,
Did a lot of surfing inmy younger days, it takes about 1 and 1/2 hours to get to the surf form my place. We to have a supermarket system, however you only have to spend $30 to get 4c off. I think out $ is about 50% of your pound.

Hi Bundyboy,

I'm lucky to live mid Cornwall which means about 15 minutes to our North coast Newquay beaches & the same distance for the beaches down South. Its handy if you get a wipe out up North you can go South.

This is a great time of year big surf and only dedicated surfers all the holiday makers gone home.

Petrol has come down here in NZ too, a couple of months back My wife and I were spending about $140 a week on petrol. But now with the lower petrol prices, (although our $ has gone down too) we are only spending about $100 a week.

Got a scheme at our local Supermarket where if you spend fifty pounds on your shopping they give you a five pence voucher off your petrol
Only catch is you have to buy it at their petrol station and the prices there are just a bit higher that everywhere else
You cant win but as they say every little helps but it has come down a lot lately :D wondering do they have Tesco Stores in New Zealand

Bundyboy
12-10-2008, 10:37 AM
Tesco stores don't exist in Australia, I agree that the price is usually a little bit highter at the supermarket petrol stations although one chain has a partnership with BP petrol and the other has a partnership with Shell.

Hi Blondie & Bundyboy,

It, all a rip of petrol & everything else, as long as I have me surfing and bowling I'm more or less happy. Think I have given up worrying about everything when I'm on the Green in the middle of a great match or A Sunday morning surf life couldn't be better.
Don't think I have moaned for ages apart from our front end,in the Clubs semi final of the men's triples, they were c**p had to carry them all the way!!!!

Keep Smiling
