We had a drive to get some new members, we did a leaflet drop to all the houses in the village, and managed to get twelve new members, it was hard work but well worth it.:D

Hi its not getting new members its keeping them, we have started a buddy
programm, where as soon as someone joins, we give them someone to show them around, make sure they have people to roll up with, and enter friendlys, seems to be working.:p

I bowl in Aberdeen Scotland and the game is dying on its feet here. We have about 20 clubs in Aberdeen and I reckon we will lose at least 6 in the next 5-10 years, probably more. You just have to look at the ages of the members to see the writing on the wall.My own club only has about 70 members of which about 25 men and 30 women actually play.We only have 5 juniors (all girls) who we hardly ever see,and will probably lose shortly because they just can't be bothered with the game. We have only one member between 16 -45 and 3 between 45-60 so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out where our club is going shortly and it won't be the only one !
A lot of this is down to fuddy duddy governing bodies failing to take steps to make bowling more attractive to youngsters and not trying to get away from the "boring game for old codgers" label that bowls has had for decades now.
There is not one club in Aberdeen who has a waiting list and getting a new member is regarded as a major achievement.
As far as I can see same situation is happening all over Scotland and probably all over the UK.:(
