Know what you mean about, heavy greens, think my arm is falling off at the beginning of the seasons, rembering to swing your arm is important.

this is where the medium weight bowl is usefull as the heavy or extraheavy will sink into grass,or keep winning ends, then you can throw short jacks:)

I take a long step out, If you remember to take your arm well back, it seems to work for me, I know a lot of people struggle with heavy greens good luck.

I also struggle at the beginning of the season, someone told me to keep my hands warm, so I can grip the wood better, trouble is I end up sending wobbly woods, really embarrassing, I shall keep watching this discussion, see if I can sort my problem out.

Managed to get some white thermal gloves, should be good,:( can keep my hands in them between bowls, not easy finding white gloves these stupid rules on colour, lots of black ones,

I have got every piece of clothing possible, for bowling, thermals are best, long johns, not very sexy, but who cares when you are so cold, at the beginning of the season, shiver shiver.

You guys don't know how lucky you are! Here in Scotland that is almost the only way you can bowl because our greens are so heavy. At the beginning of our season here you need a long step off the mat with a full backswing with as much force as you can get just to reach a full length jack. And I'm not just speaking about older players this applies to everyone. Most of our lady members really sruggle to reach a full length jack and quite often it is such a heave that they lose their line completely.:)

I played today in the rain well heavy drizzle at Bickford Smith in the third round of the White Rickard ,
The green was shocking you couldent find line of length, you wouldn't believe the heads,
My arm this evening must be six inches longer that the other, sure the grass hadn't been cut for days, talk about swinging your arm and some of the opposition were taking chunks out of the green, every time you thought you had the line your wood would hit a divot and go against the bias,
Having a moan why these Clubs don't make sure the grass is cut is beyond me

Hi Snapper,
Sounds like you lost!!!!!!!!
A friend of mine has a book of excuses to use when he loses, sounds very much like your post??????;)

Oh Keith what a thing to say, know I have a moan now and then about the state of some of the greens,
But I'm sure a lot of Bowlers will agree with me that when you get to the further rounds of a Competitions epically an important one,
They should sort out a reasonable green that isn't full of divots and long grass,
we were playing on a rubbish green when we know of really good ones that are not being used,

Hi Snapper,
Well Keith might have been a bit hurtful, but was he RIGHT.
Afraid with outdoor greens even in the latter & finals of National competitions the 'Greens' can be a bit unpredictable, thats where experience comes in to overcome conditions not focus on the difficulties in playing!!!!!!
Unfortunately when some bowlers lose you can guarantee the have an excuse ready ie; too heavy/quick/wet /dry/been laid out for left handed bowlers & the best I ever heard was 'a helicopter went over and put me off!!!! can you believe it??????;)

Hi Everyone we have been playing the Ladies Pairs this week and managed to get to the third round,
Both teams had played on certain rinks and the chap in charge reckoned rink three was good,
We had all been pulling our hair out because there were lines everywhere and it was off rink with woods going against the bias, you couldn't get within a yard of the jack,
Next morning I was real crafty and went and asked this chap what color settings the mens A team played on, and he said red, so I said as only one rink was needed for the final and it was first thing in the morning, would it be possible to have red settings, Guess what rink three bowled brilliant I had every bowl on the jack and we won the Ladies Pairs
If we are getting equality in the Bowling World about time the men shared the best green settings???????

Well done Angel, sounds like you must have been playing on a decent green like Snappers looking for!!!!!
Only joking Snapper!! the Greens around my way do vary as well always disappointing to play finals on challenging greens!!!
Well done again Angel:D
Hi All,
Managed to get into a couple of County Finals next week, weather forecast currently is awful rain & a bit more rain.
Have excuses ready, just go the hang of the fast 'summer' greens now back to the wet heavy 'greens'.
How does that sound if we lose??????????
Also have the standard excuse ready if the forecast is wrong,
'They had straighter woods than we had':(

Hi Everyone
Had an awful nights sleep last night, kept going over a game of singles in my head if I had only done this or that,
We played top Club it was the round to go the the divisional Finals, and I for my sins was playing the four wood singles.
I struggled all of the game couldn't find the green or the lines it was one of those greens that was two yards heavier going up,
We lost the Two wood singles and two rinks went down also, leaving two winning rinks, everyone was watching my game and it all depended if I won or now,
Was 15 17 down and on the last end was short with my first wood the other two hit the fast patch and sailed through the head, no pressure and my last wood was woefully short,
The nearest bowls to the jack were two feet away but unfortunately they were four of my opposition,
I feel awful and feel I
have let the whole Club down but I couldn't have tried any harder,
Hope I sleep better tonight have got to play in the rain tomorrow.
Snapper:(
Hi Snapper,
It takes a lot of nerve to do the singles in the 'Top Club', some of the so called top bowlers refuse to do the singles because they are a bit exposed!!!
You must have played well as a team to get to the divisional finals so you shouldn't worry too much, Hey if it didn't hurt a bit when you lose then winning wouldn't be so GOOD.:D

Morning Snapper
Any Bowler who has played singles will know how you feel, dont forget it wasent just you who lost, but also your other two wood singles and a rink,
You have got to forget and move on once you have another good game this one will be forgotten,
