At present Bowls is not an Olympic sport, but it is in the commonwealth games which I believe is in NEW DELHI 2010. I was meant to be playing against John Bell tomorrow morning at the indoor at Penrith, but they have given us the game. If I can find out anything I will post it...

Well Blondie,
I have taken your querie about the Olympics and put the jack into the rink of Tony Allcock and asked him if Bowls is likely to be installed inro the Olympics, after all their is no other sport in the world that has more partisipants than Bowls, and it is also one of the oldest of the Worlds sports and should be in the Olympics, especially if you see such sports as: synchronised swimming, Bmx, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, and the trampoline. So why not Lawn Bowls I am sure Francis Drake would have agreed....

Well done jack you obviously know the right people never know but its true we have a lot of members and all sports are represented except Bowls would be excellent if it ever happens in the future, know what I would do go and watch wouldn't care where it was, do you play indoors and I know I am being nosy

Yes I do, just returned from triples game now, we thought it was a home game, travelled 20 miles to the bowls club only to discover we were away we had to turn around and drive another 50 miles to the other venue, stupid or what, my fault I didn't look properly... and then we lost.
Jack
Hi Jack just been reading your post we did that last year we felt real idiots Took it for granted the driver knew where we were playing
Only thing was we had to give the game could not get back in time
Not sure what would be worse having to give the game or losing it
Throws your consternation when something like this happens sounds like you have a fair way to go between Clubs:(

Know the feeling Played in a County fours semi final last year arrived at the club and only three players turned up waited as long as we could
Tried phoning the player and got no answer it was either a question of letting them have the game or the husband of one of the ladies was
going to have to play he had come along to support
Had no shoes no woods and no kit, only played friendlies as he wasn't up to any competitive games
Spent most of the game watching for a car coming along, our missing player turned up an hour late he had got the wrong time in his Diary
Well we lost very badly have never let him forget it, do joke about it but at the time we were really worried he had an accident :(
http://www.julianhainesbowls.co.uk/forum/images/avatars/7963.gif Really Disappointed getting that far and then this happens

Yes you feel a right plonker, last summer I was going to workington to play in a pairs, I call at the Bower to pick-up my gear and couldn't get in and I had left my keys in my jacket so when I got to the green I had to scrounge up shoes and a set of bowls I got some stick I can tell you, but we had the last laugh we won the comp.. ha. ha.

Hi Jack sure if us Bowlers got together we could write a book about our experience could be a best seller
Played indoors last year one chap put his keys(car keys and house keys) into one of his shoes
Went out to talk to another player when he came back his shoes were missing total panic phoned everyone they could think of
Had to get someone to take him home leaving his car at the club
After a week with no one owning up his shoes mysteriously reappeared in the mens changing room
Can just imaging someone opening their Bowling Bag and finding this chaps shoes plus Keys RED FACES ALL ROUND:roll::roll:

Very interesting article at least they are trying shouldn't think I will ever see it happen
But its good to know that people are keeping it in the public eye, all we need now is to get a lot of young people taking up the sport
We need to change the image of Bowling from being an old peoples sport

After reading this article it looks like Bowls England must have been looking into this subject for some time, its good to know they have been discussing the subject
Now that we are Amalgamated we will stand a much better chance of getting a lot more funding for Bowling, next year will be very interesting to see what changes we can expect:rolleyes:

We are hearing so many rumors got to the stage we don't know what to believe will be better next year when we actually start bowling
Think entering the National Competitions on the computer is a good thing less paperwork :D

I didn't know that, where?
Hi Crackerjack think I worded that wrong, you can download the application form for National Competitions from the Computer fill it out and post, if you entered any last year they send you the applications in the post
Meant it was so much easier than going to the club Secretary to enter these competition can do everything from the front room
Glad I took a class on how to work my way around a computer was totally baffled when I first went on line:rolleyes:
Yes have entered the Ladies National Singles and Pairs for the first time hoping to get a bit of experience from playing these
Alway think playing more Experienced players improves your game will let you know will probably get beater twenty one nil
(Groan) Will tell myself its good experience

Yes, if you want to improve your game you must play against these players, if you restrict yourself to playing your friends week in and week out you will not get any better. Also PRACTICE, their was an article I read a while ago which said "Bowlers are commited to the game, they turn up in all weathers to play, but they WILL NOT practice". I practice 4 hours every week for indoors, and thats just on my delivery. To get better indoors you must practice as much as your able and dont mean just having a roll-up, play practice games with a good player.

Hi Jack know your right about the practice bit, when I started Playing Bowls every man and his dog would beat me and they would all give you instructions on how to deliver and stand on the mat, the worst thing was playing a friendly and they found out you were a beginner, got so fed up started to go down for an hour a day and practice, thought i was getting better played the clubs oldest lady she was eighty two,she told me she couldn't reach long jacks felt sorry for her gave her a short one and never got it back she beat me solid have never forgotten it
Was a lesson learned Angel:( Got to use your Brains in a game as well

Sometimes when your drawn against an older person in the club you can take sympathy for them, and you musn't you have to get the killer instinct and have absolutely no sympathy at all. Of course you wont enjoy the game but it is what you must do to progress.

Hi Jack this was a lesson learned got to forget who they are, and how old they are, I find some people use all sorts of tactics to throw you off your game
We had one particular lady in the club she would always complain about her eyesight said she couldn't see the jack very well with white shoes around,
She would end up with every wood on the Jack or as near as she was some player, used to wonder how many players felt sorry for her at the beginning of a game
Bet they didn't feel like that at the end Angel:rolleyes:

The more games you play Angel you will get to know some of the things people do Hate it when my opponent says I'm sure this rink isn't
straight the markings are off
Lost my concentration one game wondering about it will never happen again Surfer:cool:

Hi Blondie
Don't think I am going to be any help with the Costume for New Years Party did see a very clever costume one year this chap had dressed up as half a male bowler and half as a woman he did win first prize
He must have known someone very handy to make it bit beyond the ordinary dressing up Surfer:D:rolleyes:
