Get on the green

Found this on the net

Think this is a great idea we could use something like this both indoors and out If something isn't done to get

More people into the Sport more of our greens will be closing Our Clubs need to take action now before its too late

One of the variations of social bowls played in Australia is the 'Get on the Green' (GOTG) program – a concept developed in conjunction with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC).
How does GOTG work?
The GOTG program’s main attraction is the opportunity to participate in a relaxed and easy-to-play sporting environment. The casual and social nature of the program will prove to be just as important to participants as the challenge of playing bowls. GOTG is aimed at males and females 18 – 44 years old with a specific focus on 25 – 35 year olds.
The program comprises of the following:
A structured program – a weekly competition played on a weekday evening with modified game formats.
A fun atmosphere – the playing environment is fun, fast-paced and designed to suit all skill levels.
Flexibility – participants have the option of registering as a team or as an individual.
Equipment – all equipment will be provided by the bowls club at no extra cost. Participants need only wear casual clothing and flat-soled shoes.
Coaching – provide general instruction to participants on the basic skills of bowls.

Interesting but it won't happen at my club, I have been suggesting we wear casual at rollups for a while now. But with no luck :( - still have to wear creams.

Some of the other clubs alow casual dress at rollups and only wear creams for competitons.

We have got casual dress for roll ups, but they draw the line at shorts
or sandals still not complaining lot of Clubs around here they have to wear white above the waist and gray below happy with our Committees decision:D

This is a wonderful idea but I can see why they are targeting a certain age group
The only problem with this is they work and cant play during the week
I know a lot of younger Bowlers have problems getting back for games in the evening and taking days off to play in County games
They need to target retired couples as well

Good to see somebody doing something to encourage New Bowlers

Problem is Some Clubs put there head in the sand and resist any change,

We are slowly dragging them into this century but its a slow process

Hope they wake up before its too late

Looks a good article if a few Bowlers read this some of the ideas might filter through and be brought up at the clubs next AGM

Our Club have tried a number of things,

Open days for new members with well known Bowlers giving coaching and talks

We do flood lit Bowls at the end of the Summer where we encourage new Bowlers to come along and try the game

We do get a few people but they drift away the first Season not sure what else to do:( The Duck

The article is very good and the idea ,sure we would all like new young members
The only way our Club attracted members was to get everyone to bring a friend along for a fun bowling day did pick up a good few members this way Surfer8-)

We have the same problem year after year, all our members are getting older all we do now is go to funerals
And a lot of people look on bowls as an old peoples sport
Don't know how we are going to change the image of Bowling:D

I am sure something needs to be done sooner rather than later

And get more people to join bowling we need Clubs to make more

of an efford and not expect people to come and contact us

If you are trying to sell something you need to get out there

yes, but we need some of our older members to accept these changes too, with out chasing them away.
My current club made a few changes last year after getting a new younger committee and they ended up losing a few of the older members:(
So for some ideas we have to treat softly
