We were told yesterday by a visiting skip from another club, that it's now an official rule that if you kill an end and it goes dead, you replace the jack on the 2 meter?
Is this true?
I have played at tournaments who say this as conditions of play, but this chap says it's now an official rule?

I have just sent an email to our umpires association to find out if it's true or not.
This all came about because yesterday on another ring the skip bowling against this chap killed an end and they were going to replay the end. But he said NO the jack goes on the 2 meter, it's now an official rule he said?
This is a rule that must be 'LOCAL', never heard of it apart from competitions where time is short!!!!
But you never know!!! could be a new rule??? grateful Kiwi Bowler if you could keep this one update.
Thanks,
E T:D
P. S.
Only new rule that is around that I know is NO smoking on the 'Green' starting next season 2009.

Watched a bit of Bowling on the Tele over the summer and they did this
if the end went dead you replaced the jack on the mark
The players were trying to place bolwls where they thought they would be needed
So never know this might be what they are bringing in

Got my reply from my umpirers association and he (the Skip) was wrong it's not an official rule.
her reply as follows:
Yes and No!!!!
World Bowls have allowed New Zealand to experiment with a variation of the law for time limit games. This means that in gala tournaments, meat pack tournaments, 1 day tournaments etc if the jack is improperly delivered the opposing skip can place the jack if it is stated in the conditions of play. It is not an official rule s the official rules cover all games.
The variation cannot be used in Club championships, Centre events and such like,
So no it is not true that there are no more dead ends, as these will still be part of the game for anything other than the rollups and meat pack tournaments. Technically it is for 1 year trial period but it probably won’t disappear.
I will send you the actual circular that this was reported from Bowls NZ tomorrow from Auckland Bowls.
Hope this helps but no the visitor was not correct.

Could be the Opposition Skip, might have been using a bit of tactics were you winning at the time when he said the jack had to be placed on the two meter line:rolleyes: seen some crafty moves in my time:rolleyes:
Thanks for clearing that up Kiwi Bowler it would be sure to come up in this winters bowling will save a lot of time if some skip brings it up:D

Hi Peter, it wasn't the game I was playing but the one on the next rink. But yes they ended up losing because of this, but now we will make sure the conditions of play are announed before start of games.

Thanks Kiwi Bowler,
Understand the reason for this but do prefer the dead ends etc.
Great that you managed to get the specific answer direct, this time of year the new rules for next season start to 'rumor spread' which does not help when you are trying to understand LAST years changes!!!
Thanks again for the clarification!!!

Its really strange it only takes one thing to cause a distraction played a singles game this year and was winning hands down eighteen eleven up
My opponent went to the ladies and she did take a long time
When she came back I lost the jack and my consternation went
don't know what happened did not win another end
Lost the Game :(

Maybe you should have used her tactics:wink:
Played one Bowler who has a reputation for doing this,
She never leaves the green when she is winning
As soon as the game goes the other way she trots off to the Ladies
And spend a long time there, the girls around here know what is happening
I think its a mental thing now we know, it doesn't have that much of an
Effect on our game :D

:rolleyes:Sure theres a rule somewhere about how long a player can leave the green for during a game
Would need to have someone who would keep an eye and time the player involved
