Great News Have been informed that we can now have a green meters in length
This is going to stop a lot of Clubs having the advantage of rinks that only go one way
The players from these Clubs know the rinks inside out
And win the league every year they wont have any excuse
That they cant change the green round anymore Surfer8-)

Got a couple of these greens in our Division, hate having to play County games on them know you have got to overcome all greens
But the runs on them are deadly if your opposition gets near the jack you've had it no way in this world can you get it off:(

:(Got some here as well do you think they will change them round
They do have the advantage on these greens if there is no clear ruling they might leave them as they are Angel :(

Hi Kiwi Bowler,
There is a bit of confusion, as we understand it the International and National rules have been changed to have a shorter minimum length of a 'Green' to 32 meters in total.

Some clubs have always played 'one way' because the green is oblong & the shorter length wasn't legal, but is now because of the reduced length!!

This allows these clubs to alternate the way they play to reduce wear!!

Hope this clarifies the position but with all these changes it's hard to keep up!!!!!

This is something that should have been addressed a long time ago
ould be more happy if this rule was made compulsory
It would make these Clubs have less of a Advantage on their greens:(

Some of these greens which aren't long enough to be turned round should be banned
The home team have such an advantage they very rarely get beaten at home
But put them on a decent green and their bowling is badly lacking
Glad something is being done at last:rolleyes:

Hi everyone,
I am am bowler in Melbourne,Victoria, Australia. I am very interested in what is happening in your part of the world. In Melbourne we have a 17 week pennant season which starts in October and finishes late February. Our green speed runs from a slow 11 seconds up to a good grass green speed of 15 seconds and we have a synthetic speed which is around 17 seconds( its old and being replaced) We have to play pennant in a North South direction as the sun gets in your eyes if we play East West. Most of the greens we play on can be played either way as the greens are usually 6-7 rinks wide and long. However our greens tend to play better North South and tend to have runs East West. We have a big issue here as the Bowling Association has introduced a timing ramp. All greens must run between 13-17 seconds, however there is little consequence for running outside theses speeds.
Hope you enjoyed what is happening over on the other side.

Good Morning from Cornwall

You're very lucky in Australia have seen a few pictures of some of your greens and they look great
We get a lot of rain in Cornwall and last season our greens were unbelievable heavy
Had a lot of bowlers getting injured with slipping and falling over
Our Summer season starts 15 April and we have closing day on 23 September
Really interesting to hear how you do things in Australian Bowling Clubs
Do you play in the Winter months Surfer:cool:

Angel http://www.julianhainesbowls.co.uk/forum/images/avatars/7963.gifOur Greens are changed everyday because of the wear on the grass so we have different settings which the green keeper moves every morning
Our Mens A team have the best settings for their league games then the B C and D mens teams
The Ladies are put anywhere epically off rink for their games and we have been complaining
Even when we play County Competitions we are put on rubbish settings but come six O'Clock and the mens A team play they move the rinks back to the good settings:(

Hi Bundyboy

Our Green speed varies depending on the weather and length of grass some green keepers don't cut the grass as often as they should
We have two artificial six rinkers in Cornwall and we play winter and summer on these depending how cold it gets
Don't think we have the quality green that you have in Australia:rolleyes:

Hi Bundyboy and welcome to the forum.

I guess you could say I'm your neighbour across the ditch in Auckland NZ, very interesting this timing ramp your assoc has introduced. We don't have any rules like that over here as far as I know.

But anyway out of interest which do you prefer the fast or slow greens?

Our synthetic runs around 17 seconds all year round, however at the start of the season in October, supposedly our wettest month, most greens run aroud the 12 seconds therefore the association felt that this was too much of an advantage. So they introduced a speed ramp. A small sphere the size of an orange is rolled down a ramp and the distance it rolls is measured and compared with a chart and given a speed. The chart goes to 15 metres which is around 20 seconds. However we have found that the calculations are about 1 1/2 seconds too fast once you get over 16 seconds. HOwever the association is trying to close those greens too fast or too slow and becuase we are in premier league they are just waiting for a team to put a complaint in ans then we will see what happens. This week we play a side who complained last year. Will keep you posted. No other state in australia uses a ramp.

The best speed aroundhere which everyone loves is around 15 seconds. We have a couch grass green which runs 15 seconds but rather narrow. The othermain grass used is a bent which is much wider at the same speed as the couch.

Hi they don't seem to bother much with the speed of the greens outdoors in England some of our greens are good some are bad full of holes bare patches etc
There are a few pictures on Members Photos under difficult bowling greens will give you some idea about what we play on
They do check the speed of the greens indoors and get the mat stretched regularly
The thing indoors is when the heating comes on the mat gets faster and when it goes off it gets heavier
Am interested to see if the team that complained will do so again Surfer:cool:

Have seen the workmen who stretch the carpet indoors use a small ramp device to see what speed the carpet is running at
We usually struggle for a week or so getting used to the faster speed:(

You are so lucky to have greens and club house like this, we keep getting sheds
One for the home team to change one for the visiting teams
0ne for the youngsters had a grant for that one ,because of the rules on child protection
We get very little help in England when it comes to Bowling clubs we fund everything ourselves:(

Great Picture and you have the weather as well bet you have got some very good Bowlers

Were lucky to have grass some years got one club and ever year the chap puts the fertilizer on and doesn't water it in properly

There green is completely yellow and fast beyond belief when it rains you get a sort of sludge on the woods and is as heavy as treacle
