Why oh why is this not enforced!!
Nothing is more disgusting that standing next to one of these chain smokers, no matter why you stand you still get a full lung of smoke!!:(
Totally unacceptable in this day and age yet it's allowed to happen right up to County level.
Is there any thing I can do to ensure that I'm not getting smoke every time O bowl without giving up bowling???
Last week in a County play off one inconsiderate bowler had a PIPE, like inhaling a compost fire!!;)

Hi Brian,
I'm surprised it's still going on in my County it's been banned for a couple of years, they certainly wouldn't get away with it at Worthing.
Suggest you bring it up at the Divisional/County AGM, got a feeling as soon as a complaint comes in they have to enforce the rules.
We have no problem with smokers they have accepted the position never hear it mentioned and they respect others!!
Don't put up with it:confused:

Surprised he hasn't been banned, as he should!!!!:)

Everyone smokes at the entrance to our indoor club, but the smoke and smell just gets sucked back into the entrance hall. It really is a disgusting smell.

We have come along the right road concerning the vile smoke, just a bit further to go!

Having seen the awful health problems iour family, smoking should at least be totally banned from any sport, and it's premises!!
If Companies weren't making so much money from the unfortunate folk that smoke the political will would be there!!
Do agree nothing worse than the smoke drifting in from these sad souls that huddle outside buildings etc.
Sport at least should take the lead!!,

Firstly it should be pointed out to him AND the club owners/officials that it is a criminal act to smoke in a public place ( and this includes members clubs )
Secondly why are the smoke alarms not being activated by his smoke?.

Hi All,
Good point by Umpire, guess the sensors if there are any not sensitive enough for the vile smoke.
Had a weeks holiday in Turkey last week, they smoke in all public places restaurants, hotel lobbies, if fact any where where it can infect the damage on others, were so lucky major steps have been taken, hopefully any public open area will include the ban 1 day.
Turkey won't get into the E.U. with these public health issues.
Truly funny thing all films etc on Turkish T V has a big blob over any cigarette being smoked, Big distraction on the older films, so they must know they have a problem.:(

Best thing that ever happened was banning smoking I was on bar duty one night for the card evening down the Club and it was horrendous every table had people chain smoking and even with all the doors open it did not help I spent most of the night with my head out the door promised myself never again.
So much better now
Angel:D
Well said Angel,
Whats interesting not had any posts against the ban ie personal freedom etc etc.
Could not imagine ever goingback tohow it was and would not travel to a Country that smoking in public places was going on.
What is wrong is still bowlers smoking on grass greens, its the only argument for out door artificial!!!!:D
Have watched a number of mens league games this year and its the same bowlers who continually smoke during a game and nobody objects or complains,
If this was to happen during a ladies game there would be all hell to pay why are they allowed to get away with it.

Not sure if 'smoking' has been banned for all grass greens, think its up to each area in each County, that even applies to County competitions.
I say this as there is still a lot of smokers who smoke on the green and unfortunately around me!!!!!!

There is certainly not a full ban on it although there can be a ban on it in certain events/ tournaments. It would have to be written in to the Event rules however in order to be enforceable.

Thanks edinburghump,
Thought that was the case but not for certain!!!
We have a friend that had a non smoking related cancer,he spent quite a time in the cancer ward, fortunately he's back bowling but has developed quite an intolerable attitude when smokers are in his space!! Think he saw what damage smoking does including passive smoking.
So truly hopeful our wise law makers will ban smoking from the playing green, as often impossible to avoid inhaling smoke at times:(

we went on holiday abroad last year and the hotel had no signs about not smoking i spent the entire holiday trying not to sit beside or around the people who smoked.
Have never seen any of out girls smoke during a game it must be a male thing

Can remember our Club when we had no lady members!!!
Majority of men smoked then, now we have a ban on smoking in Club games etc had no problem with that.
Had a couple of County qualifying games here this season and a lot of smoking on the rinks.
As a non smoker I would love to see a complete ban from the playing green for smoking in the England bowls rules, sure it will come one day.
I use to smoke never realizing what an awful pollution of the air that happened. Only recent times the future health of passive smoking thats going to happen!!

It's amazing how times have changed in regard to smoking.
I gave smoking away over 25 years ago but I recall playing bowls with a dirty great pipe stuck in my gob.
I reckon there would be a few members here who would recall when smoking was fashionable with all the great film stars puffing away and looking sophisticated with a fag stuck in a long cigarette holder.
Remember when you went to the cimema and could hardly see the screen for the smoke haze.
When you look back on the tobacco advertisements -- we were truly conned.
Hi Irish Digger
When I was a teenager it was supposed to be glamorous and a bit naughty if you had a fag a lot of my friends smoked and its only now people are
realizing the danger the government made millions with tax on cigarettes if they was no money involved they might have done something sooner
like your self I have
bowled with people who had pipes and they would keep them in their mouth the whole game I am so glad they have banned smoking on the green
but a lot of bowlers completely ignore it.

A lot of Bowlers are responding and not smoking on the rinks you can see them heading off for a quick puff I for one am not going to tell them its not a total ban going to enjoy the clean air for as long as possible.

I certainly prefer the non smoking atmosphere.
Although there are times when the dreaded midge (in their hundreds at a number of clubs we play at) is in evidence that I wish for a pipe smoker - they used to be tremendous for keeping the head clear of midges!

Can remember when I started to bowl indoors about 6 year ago, smoking was allowed on the edge of the rinks by spectators
It was that bad I was going to give up as it was clearly unhealthy.
Understand my County are considering banning smoking on the green out doors, at last they are taking their responsibilities seriously.
People who smoke seem so inconsiderate to others:(

Now they smoke at the entrance to the indoor and you have to walk past a thick cloud of smoke.
The Committee at my Indoor Club have fitted a box for cigarette ends on the wall right beside the entrance,
As you go past these smoking Bowlers depending on which way the wind is blowing you let in a cloud of smoke that stinks the place out,
I do wish they had placed this box well away from the front entrance.

At most clubs here you have to smoke out side of the club in the car parking areas.
But at my club we still have one older bowler who they allow to smoke on the surrounds of the green. But the good thing is that when he does have a smoke he does it away from anyone.

I would rather it was outside (even at the entrance) than having them smoke indoors!
