If there is one thing that needs changed is Clubs who insist on putting all Club Competitions on over such a short period in September
I have been playing non stop in all weathers because they insist these competition have to be played down to two players for finals day,
Its a wonder some of our more aged can even walk up the green its most unfair to expect them to play three or more games in a day:(
I am playing mix triples at ten something I could do without on a Sunday.

Sorry Folks having a moan

Must be unusual circumstances at your club, mine like most others try to spread comps over the season, rather than trying to cram anynin as the weather can play a part this time of year:D

We have play by dates for club competitions which are supposed to be followed to the letter strange how things can change when its our club

secretary who cant play a game.

Devon Bowler at a club I used belong too, we used have lots of problems with playing club competitions on time, so I volunteered to be competition secretary. The chairman thought this was a good idea, until I told him he needed to play his match or be thrown out of the competition. It seems sometimes rules only apply to non committee members.
At my current club there was a of trouble on the finals weekend as a player was in 5 finals and the player said they couldn't play 5 matches in a weekend, but in my eyes if you enter a number of competitions you should be willing to play in all the finals you manage to get into over the finals weekend.

In the U.K. you have the advantage of 'lighter evenings', whereas here in South Australia the latest it stays light is about 8p.m. On the other hand we do have more co-operative weather patterns!.
As a result many of your club competitions could be played in the evenings. We do play a lot of night bowls here as most of the clubs are equipped with excellent floodlight systems. This is mainly League competitions as not many clubs would play their club championships under lights.

Hi foxyone2,

We do have lighter evenings up until mid August then they draw in rapidly, like you by 8pm start of September when our club finals are on a start time of about 5pm is the latest!!!

Can you not start the preliminary rounds at the start of the season and then hold the finals much earlier?. At most clubs here weekend days* are set aside and two rounds are played each day.
* non League/Pennant days, usually the Sunday.
In the U.K. you could utilise the evenings over the course of a week.
If a player cannot play on that day they must get the agreement of their opponent/s to play the game/s in the prior week, or forfeit. If there are exceptional circumstances which prevent the individual honouring that arrangement exceptions can be made by the Tournament Committee. It's rare that this occurs as the 'lead-swingers' are well known as are the genuine cases!.
Contingency days are set aside to allow for inclement weather.
The rules relating to club competitions are clearly stated and if a person doesn't like the rules the solution is clear.........don't enter!.
Whilst this may seem somewhat draconian it does prevent a lot of the problems associated with in-club tournaments.

Hi Foxyone2,

Well that would be a good thing to do, unfortunately you have not met our competition secretary!

He's been the job for years, any suggestion it's met well 'do the job your self' he resigns from the job several times a year, trouble is no one else wants to do it and some how he takes up the Jon again.
Guess one day we have to get our act together and find someone who will do it.
Seems the problem in many clubs these days!!!

If I knew that I would have to play four games on Saturday on Finals day I would not have entered it was tipping with rain and we had to keep stopping and starting because of heavy showers I was soaking wet,

I suppose I am having a successful year I only ever managed to get through to one final before, but the bowler in charge wouldn't even consider letting me play the last game another day.

I could hardly walk up the green wet tired fed up never ever ever going to enter more that two of these club competitions again,

You can get to much bowling and your game will get stale these club competitions are supposed to be fun,
This sound more like a marathon there no need four games in a day is way too many i thought there was some rule that restricted the number games

I think its only for County Competitions that a rule applies about the number of games that have to be played,
Club Competitions are different I expect they were trying to get everything finished,
I don't enter so many now and I think bowlers who enter everything have to be prepared to play all finals no good knocking people out and then complain.

Get Frank Bruno or Mike Tyson to join your club and get them to K.O. the Tournament Director!.

Do agree Surfer your comps sound very competitive with these knockout blows, sounds like the winners win by a standing count!!

This bit about playing a max number of games per day came up at our last A G M, it was kicked into touch as the feeling was the matches needed to be played through as if the weather O.K. the Club would not have the time to fit it all in, we are a big club with lots of entries for club competitions!!!

Hi All,

About 3 years ago at our AGM it was passed that in Club Comps no more than 3 games can be insisted be played.

As we are an ageing population this was passed to keep the entries up as some thought it was a strain to play more than 3!

It has worked well whilst number on entries have not gone up they haven't gone down.

Just got in from playing just under 4 hours in a mens fours game, could not mentally or physically play another, it was so warm slow and tedious, just had enough!!

Batteries recharged for tomorrow.
