I never knew that when we hosted a Vice President Game that they don't charge any green fees apparently this is an historic thing,
The club hosting the game provides lunch plus tea and biscuits at ten ends,
The cost to the Club is around four pounds each but charges only two pounds with six rinks making 48 players this is a loss of £96 per game,
With my Club struggling to make ends meet and putting up subscriptions every year and some pensioners having to stop playing friendlies because of the cost this is one area that should be looked at.
How many Club Members realizes that this goes on ? ? ?

It's not done at my club.
I suggest it's brought up at your next AGM and you vote on getting it changed.
If this happens for the Vise President, what happens if it's the President?

We had the problem at my Club a few years ago, surviving on capital funds built up by hard working members in the past.
If things like tuning at a profit was brought up at the A G M, you had the standard reply, 'Thats it jacking this job in, get someone else to do it', knowing full well no one else would do any of the key jobs!!
Mainly because of lack of delegation overvthe years the jobs had become huge and no one would take them on because they had a life out side bowls.
Eventually some newer members got together and put up for the committee
The Club is now back into profit with proper accounts and charging the proper prices still very cheap!
So things do work out!!

There is sometimes an element of "empire building" with these roles which can lead to a lack of scrutiny or even outright abuse of the position.

We have the situation that the bar has stock bought in and stock sold so we know how are profit margins are and when we have a stock take you can see any irregularities,
But when it comes to the kitchens there is no records kept of how much is purchased how much is sold and how the profit margins are,
The whole club is afraid to ask in case the people involved will jack the job in its like walking on eggshells,
All you get is people grumpling in the background but getting things brought into the open is impossible
The only advice someone gave me when I joined my bowling club was don't volunteer because whatever you do will be wrong.

I have found that its always a few strong people who take charge and run things but they get so used to having their own way that when someone challenges them they throw a tantrum and threaten to jack the job in,
No other bugger wants to do these jobs and yes they get their own way again after a few years of this people stop trying to get things changed.
Perhaps its better the Devil you know
