Things a bit tight over here.
know anyone who fits the bill.
Bowler found Guilty
A Bowler has been found guilty of claiming £60.000 in disability benefit-despite continuing to play the game to a high and active level, working as a pall-bearer and running his own taxi firm ???? claimed that it took him ten minutes to walk 50 yards, yet he still carried coffins for a living and was actively involved in the Bowling Association, A jury found him guilty of six counts of benefit fraud-in spite of his claims that his bowls matches were for therapeutic purposes. ???? who has crohns disease and spondylitis maintains his innocence.
Hi Angel,
Unfortunately this could happen in any sport!!! so sad that Bowls is dragged through the mud, I remember when this made the national papers!!!
Don't think it reflects on how things have become more expensive in the U.K. just greed!!!!!!
Have always believed in our welfare system, but now, not so sure, watching a particular day time show, it seems that we are paying our young to stay at home and have children, with us taxpayers paying the price (and the economy etc etc)
Anyway good post, sad the case involved 'Bowls', hope there are no more skeletons?????????

Is there anyone 'Working out there!!!!!'

It's a great shame on how we allow a great support system to be abused, sounds like just not U.K.
Looking around and unfortunately it is rife in many sports locally, including some of our Top bowlers.
Have always thought that it can't go on, but it seems to carry on?
Bowling is such a great game for all ages!!!

Did not know you have a benefit system in New Zealand, not sure why i thought this, we are too soft over here, people abuse the system, got a lot of pensioners struggling with petrol and food prices, and other fit people sitting at home all day doing nothing, or working on the side, something will have to change, know a few bowlers, who are pretty good on the green, fall into this category.:(

Yes it seems to be turning into a country of people on the benefit here in NZ all thanks to our Labour Govt. There's lots girls here on the DPB (Domestic Perposes Benefit), it's like a job for them. They get paid to have children with no fathers and they get lots of different allowances as well. While as workers with families struggle.

Know what you mean, work all your life pay your taxes, and watch other chaps sit at home, and stroll down the club, with bad knees, bad back, playing three games a day, never right, country cant afford to keep this going.:(

No i don't think there is, Kiwi Bowler says the ladies claim DEP Domestic Perposes payment in New Zealand. over in England its DSS Department of Social Security, Know of a night club who on a Wednesday caterers for the not so young clubbers, its known locally as DSS night its Divorced Separated and Single, had some great night there myself, and i am none of the above, Back to the subject, know quite a few bowlers, who can't work , but manage to play three games in a day,:(
Hi All,
It's a bit sad to say we have coined the old U. K. slang 'Rock & Roll', yea, you guessed, there are many on the 'Rock & Roll' & playing sport at a good level.
Funny, many blame other countries for starting this 'Easy Life', just look at what some of us call it 'Rock & Roll', what lingo is that??
As a true Bowler, blame someone else, weather/green/skip/woods etc etc!!!!!

All very well but you do get genuine cases of disability allowance, not everyone is on the fiddle, and a lot of people are too ill to work and depend on this to survive, someone like this bowler who got prosecuted, doesn't do anyone any favor's, sounds a greedy sod to me.

Webb was given an 18-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, at Gloucester Crown Court after being convicted of claiming £17,000 of disability living allowance and £43,000 of incapacity benefit between 1996 and 2000.Webb was given an 18-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, at Gloucester Crown Court
Can you see why no one is bothered about getting caught, just a slap on the wrist, must have cost the tax payers a fortune taking this case to court, :(Angel

Not much of a sentence, might as well give everyone the red light, to fiddle the system, no wonder, things are falling to pieces, makes you mad when you consider how much tax we pay, just to keep people sitting at home, no wonder everyone wants to come and live here,we are a soft touch.:(
