View Full Version : Good morning UK bowlers
Hi Kiwi Bowler,
Having moved clubs before I know how reassuring it is when you get several requests to join teams etc.
I think you are wise to consider which team, I joined 1 team which quietly drives me round the bend, always moaning about each other and will never achieve anything, but can I get out of it!! trouble is we travel on a Monday evening together, about 30 miles, and is very difficult to break the routine!! at times I would walk the 30 miles than play with the moaners!!!
Pleased to hear that your new club is working out!!
Our outdoor season finishes this weekend and indoor in about 3 weeks!!

Good morning all, on the news last night it showed England coming to a stand still with all the snow.
It's amazing how it has affected your country just because it's arrived early?
Thanks for thinking of us Kiwi Bowler, its quite bad in some parts but cleared well in others.
Don't think its a matter that the snow has arrived early, its that we don't get a lot of it usually so very little is invested in 'snow machinery etc' so when we have a bit everything comes to a standstill even the indoor bowling because members can't travel!!!:rolleyes:

I am shortly going to get in touch with my indoor club to find out if the Indoor league is on for tomorrow - I had to nominated as umpire for this game didn't I?
We have our annual indoor opes 4's tournament tomorrow, a lot of entries from all over usually enter, what a nightmare this year!
Talking to our organizers yesterday that it is still on but the actual teams wont be known until the start tomorrow 9.30am!!!!
The prize money is £200 for first place, & on a round robin basis so it depends who you play etc!!!
Hope your day goes well edinburghump

Hi U.K. bowlers,
Hope you are all O.k. the thaw has set in and Bowling back to normal!!
We have had stacks of games canceled thrown the leagues into chaos as most of the games won't be caught up!!
Still only a game, its the Nationals?counties missed deadlines that are a bit of a problem!!
All O.K. now wouldn't believe that there was snow on the Ground!!

I find these Club Tournaments a struggle played in one over the weekend played three sets,of four ends with a time limit, with a break in between only takes one player a bit on slow side and you run out of time, epically when they are on the winning team never know anyone could bowl so slowly.
Vowed never to enter another spent most of the day drinking tea.

Thaw? What thaw? We are had another 4 inches of snow yesterday on top of the black ice and previous dumpings so we are in a worse state than ever.
The game on Saturday was ok - the only one to go ahead as it happened. Nothing too controversial happened!

Think I was a bit premature edinburghump, last night it was like a skating rink on the way home!!! quite dangerous, bit too much for a game of bowls!!
Forecast to ease the thaw by the weekend, hopefully getting back to normal, if there is such a thing!!!

Hi All,
At last looks like we are getting back to normal, weather easing but b"""" cold and icy coming home last night, was in a 4 wheel drive so felt a bit safer.
Can't be worth a game of Bowls traveling around in this weather!!
Think our club realize there is no chance to catch up the missed league games & are writing them off!! Can result in some teams having played more and ahead on points for that reason!!:rolleyes:

Morning Blocker,
My club has come up with what I think is a stupid idea which is to re schedule the missed leagues during the Christmas break!!!
To say the least it's made the wife smile, think its a non runner as its a family
time & has caused uproar in the club.
The date they want to use our the 27/12 28/12 29/12
Happy Christmas:grin:

Hi E T,
Looking at the weather forecast for the end of this week, might have to reschedule Christmas!!!!!
don't think my family would be to keen if I was away playing bowls over the Christmas holidays!!!
Hi All,
Can only be the privately owned clubs that can open over holidays etc, our bowling green is in a complex run by the Council, causes all sort of problems, ie; Closes at 10pm each evening, also closes for 8 days over the Xmas break leaving no leeway to catch up on games!!!
The 10pm closing has caused several problems in the past when important games start at 6.15pm and not finished by 10 pm (just short of the 4 hour rule) and we have to be out the door by 10pm, has ruined lots of games.
Watching the clock and rushing!!!:)
Hi All,
We've been fortunate although a lot of snow & ice we have caught up nearly all the missed/canceled games.
Our last league commitments for the Club is this Friday providing the weather keeps off that sees us through until 3rd January!! So hopefully we should be O.K.
Looking at the diary, the problems experienced last year were in fact this years post Christmas fixtures.
So hopefully this coming lot will be the last for the winter???
Our committee met last night to discuss the soaring heating costs, not sure what they can do about it apart fro the evenings at weekends when the club sees very little bowling apart from practicing!:D

Not sure what is happening about my club - we have had the last three weeks fixtures called off so there is a huge backlog of fixtures if they decide to play them out.
Our last game (of this half of the season) is Friday so I might find out what's happening then

Hi All,
Our club secretary knows several clubs that the back log of games is so great that the un played games are just written off!!
Trouble is now that any chance of weather on its way Teams are just calling games off!!!!!
