A Word of warning Bowlers one Club was doing the spring cleaning getting ready for opening day, they took their silver trophies out of the display
cabinet to clean, and someone or somebody managed to walk into the Club house and stole one, no body seen anything They are now in the
position that because there is no signs of a break in are they covered by their insurance company,The cup taken was solid silver and worth £2000
pounds they are still trying to sort out the Insurance Claim,
Its worth taking security precautions before something like this could happens in your Club

Hi Peter,
Brilliant post Peter, surprised we haven't seen this before.
This happened in our County a quite successful Bowler had a break in among other things he had a Couple of trophy's stolen they were old and valuable.
He hadn't given it a thought when he signed for them after winning local tournaments, what he signed for was total responsibility until he handed them back in a year latter!!
One was valued at £1800 the other £1500, he had an old insurance policy and the insurance assessor deemed he was way under insured and paid out a total of £2000 for the trophy's laving a shortfall of £1300.
Both committees of the tournaments accepted the proportionate lower amounts but a big lesson to trophy winners!!!
Now on the rare occasion I get into trophy's I say thank you but decline to take them home with me, organizers are pleased with this as they don't have the hassle of trying to get them back next year!!!:(

Evening Keith
What an eye opener I am sitting looking at last years Cups and Trophies and i never gave it a thought about anyone wanting to pinch them but with the way thing are at present and the price of silver I am worried I assumed I would be covered by my household insurance, I'm going to give them a clean tomorrow and return to the Club Secretary,
Can stop worrying then
Thanks this is a Very Interesting thread glad I noticed it

That's interesting that you have to sign for cups and trophy's, but I can understand if they are worth that much.
I had stopped a few years back from accepting cups to take home, but my reason was more the hassle of getting the silver polish out each year to clean them before returning them.
But I had wondered what would happen if one got stolen and how you would replace it?
Thats a very good idea not accepting these Trophies I hate having to carry them home and then polish them all year, its not that I win many but
even the Club Trophies have to be signed for,
What I really want to know is are these Silver Cups covered under normal house hold insurance, anyone know I find it impossible to get any
information from companies and end up waiting for hours holding the phone.:(
Can see why Bowlers don't want the trophies these days, asked at my club & the committeeb have all our trophies insured for £15,000, they are not handed out these days but kept in a locked cabinet in our alarmed club house!!
A card is placed in front of the trophy each year showing the winners name (trophy also engraved)!
They said it was insurance problem that stopped the trophies being kept at winners home. Another big benefit apparently was the hassle of getting them back each year ready for our Dinner & Dance night.:)

Thats a lot of Extra Insurance that the Club and members are paying out ,My Indoors Club still have the trophies which they keep locked away but if you are lucky enough to win in the club competitions they give you a voucher for five pounds which is they taken off next years subscriptions.

I always try and palm any Cups that we win off on the other members of the team seems to work I'm not so sure it will work next year after they hear about what it cost to cover them on the Insurance
Funny thing, Bowlers are saying they don't want trophies, but put a trophy in front of a group of Bowlers and the horns come out,& some want to win at all costs.
Expect it's the winning not the responsibility of looking after the cup and cleaning it!!

A lot of clubs are now giving vouchers off next years membership for winning clubs competitions great idea going to bring it up at next AGM,
I have a loft full of tiny trophies collected over the years its a waste to just throw them away.
