In Australia we have a Pennant season.
In my area, East Gippsland, we have 10 Clubs each of whom field Pennant sides. Each 'side' has 3 teams of 4 players. We play 25 ends.

Saturday Pennant starts at 1 p.m. break at 3.15 p.m. for afternoon tea, then finish approx. 5 p.m. This competition has 4 Divisions, each with about 8 sides.

Tuesday 10 a.m. start, play straight through and finish about 1.30 p.m. for lunch. This competition has 3 Divisions, number of sides varies from season to season.

Is this similar to your 'League' Competitions?

I can only speak for Scotland here but no, our set up differs considerably.

Our league set up consists of local leagues where clubs from a town, city or area play each other, for example Edinburgh has approximately 40 clubs which play in 3 separate league associations - West Edinburgh, Water of Leith and Edinburgh Bowling League. These leagues play of either during the evenings or at weekends (in some areas due to distance). Generally the games are played over 17 ends with no stoppages.

Above this, there are County associations (eg Edinburgh & Leith) who will pick from the players in their area (the three leagues above) and put forward a team for the County Championships which are played over 21 ends on Saturdays.

Hi Beejay,

Great post as it goes to show how similar we are but have some variations.

In Somerset we have the County split into areas and we play in the evenings, each club enters teams into leagues, 3 teams of 4 bowlers,
there is promotion up & down the leagues, they start around 6.15pm stop for a quick tea at 10 ends and played for 21 ends.
There are some variations, do know in the Plymouth area they play something similar to you on Saturday afternoons:wink:

Expect like us traveling players a big part in competition area, Bowlers like playing during the week, which leaves the weekends free for other competitions!!
