Spotted this in the 'Letters', section of my localo paper.

Goes to show the need to be careful when under 'STRESS!!!!!

FROM LOCAL PAPER!!!!!!!!

I am a playing member of my local bowling club and I am disturbed by the number of fellow players - from home and visiting teams - who use phrases like "Oh my God!", "God knows!", and "Jesus Christ!" during the clattering deflection of woods. Players are largely in the 55 years-plus age group.

I also overhear similar phrases from conversations when walking the main street and shopping in town. They are used by young mums and dads.

It is bad enough when the thoughtless words come from adult lips, but when six, seven and eight-year-olds coming home from school use them to one another I perceive a devastating, if unintentional, influence on the next generations.

My God is a living and loving Heavenly Father. He is involved in my life day to day. He helps me through difficulties (such as cancer of the voice box, which makes it hard for me to answer people in general conversation). God gives me wisdom in choices; shows me standards to live by.

Jesus Christ is God become man, to live a short life on Earth and to show how it ought to be done. Showing greater love than any other man, he sacrificed his own life - not just for a country or for a cause - but for every human being ever. Knowing Jesus personally is the only way to peace with Almighty God when this life is over.

Dying on his cross Jesus prayed: "Father, forgive them for they don't know what they are doing." My colleagues and these other folk are probably unaware of the significance of words they blandly use.

May I use your excellent letters columns to make us all think about the words we say? What do they really mean? What influence does our carelessness have on our children and theirs?

The Rev Colin Salter

What can i say, heard a lot worse things muttered on the green, very emotional game bowls, not that i would do such a thing.

I always say sugar, when I'm tempted to vent my feelings, on the green, epically when someone is winding me up, got a skip who laughs really loud when she has a bad wood, which is quite often, really annoying.

Stress, never heard the word, us bowlers don't get it, seen seventy something pensioners, sulk mutter, and actually launch bowls up the rink sure they were aiming at someone.

Hi all fellow Bowlers, (nice intro),

Surprisingly this has had a chewing over at the 'Bar', the general feeling is that 'dodgy language' use to be a darn site worse.
The improvement or less bad language has seen a change since 'Women', have taken up the game and the explosion in mixed games!!

Have to agree that this is one of the positive effects of women taken up the game of 'Bowls'!!

Expect where clubs are still predominately 'male' the language could be slightly different????

Yes, I will join your club and it really annoys me when I'm in a hurry. I feel like just charging into them, like I'm driving a bowl on the greenhttp://forums.bowlsworld.com.au/images/smiles/laie67tx8.gif
