I am new to the site and indeed new to bowls.
In fact, your 'security quesiton' totally stumped me because I have only used yellow jacks so far

Welcome Piemaster
Great to have you join us on the Forum, I have been bowling a while now and i understand what you mean about the yellow jacks in my Club they keep the white ones for important competitions, so Bowlers playing friendlies or rolling up usually get the chipped marked yellow jacks,
Hope you don't mind me asking but have you been Bowling long look forward to chatting

Well I wouldn't really call myself a bowler at all yet. Me and my wife played a number of times while on holiday at an all-inclusive style place in Devon and really enjoyed it. I would really like to play more, but it's difficult to know where to go from here. There are plenty of clubs in my local area, but I don't really have an 'in' as it were. I don't know any members, I don't even have my own woods or shoes. I'm hoping to find an indoor club (I guess it would have to be at this time of year) who have a sort of open session we could go to.
Welcome Piemaster to the site hope you find it helpful!
We had a club tour to Devon about 8 years ago, think it was Ashbury Manor, lots of Bowling & a bit of golf. We had a great time with lots to do, never had time to do it all!!!!
Best of luck with the Bowls. would suggest you get hold of the Secretary of the Club (indoor at the moment) they will welcome you with open arms, best phone call you can make!!!
Best of luck
Hi Piemaster
Was it the Manor House Hotel you went too, because I have stayed there a few times and it was great.
I have just started bowling indoors myself, I just went along to my nearest indoor club and was made welcome straight away.

Yes, it was Manor House we went to. Nice place and a great opportunity to try out bowls for the first time.
Are most indoor clubs affiliated to an outdoor one? Or do dedicated bowlers join two clubs, one for the summer and one for the winter?

Evening Piemaster
Nearly all of the Clubs have a supply of Bowls and shoes that you can borrow to have a roll up, it cost on average two or three pounds green fees for two hours or until you get tired, any Club will Welcome you with open arms and it is a great way to make friends and keep fit, its one of the best things I ever did the only regret is my partner refuses to give it a try,
My Club has a swipe key lock so we can go any evening or day time when there are no matches on for a practice.
Good Luck be sure to check out a few Clubs the nearest one is worth a look saves on the traveling time.
