Does anyone know anything about them? I bumped into an old bowling mate at the shopping centre tonight and he told me he now bowls with Greenmaster Premier Bowls? And he said he had been doing quite well with them. He also suggested if I wanted a change of bowl to try them out first before?

Just had a look at the Greenmaster Premier, the top players in Australia are all using these woods, and are having a lot of success, but would they suit the heavy wet greens that we play on over here, haven't seen any of our players using them yet shall keep my eyes open and report back.

Never come across these Bowls, think i can remember someone telling me they were going to make Bowls that were white, cant see the sense of that, you wouldn't be able to see the jack, not sure if this is right, does anyone know.:(

Seen a chap playing with pink woods, cant say i was impressed, think white would be taking it a bit far, we would be getting striped ones next already got speckled.:(

had a look on the net, cant say Ive come across anyone playing with these woods, but it will only be a matter of time, looks like the greenmaster premier is not as straight as the greenmaster power, but still a pretty straight wood not a lot of curve at the end, would be intersting to play with a set of these.

I have been told they have White Bowls in Australia already and will be in NZ in about 2 months. I can't remember which type/brand they were.

Think the manufactures have got it wrong, good to bring out different woods, but white woods, i find it hard enough to get near the jack, know a few ladies who if anyone is wearing white shoes, ask them to move out the head, lord knows what would happen if players had white woods.:(

One club I played at earlier this year used yellow Jacks, instead of the usual white ones:confused:

Hi Kiwi Bowler, yes we have white and yellow jacks, keep the yellow ones for practice as they are a bit battered, but we have a lot of elderly ladies, who's eyesight is not what it used to be, bit hard if you cant see the jack if someone is wearing white shoes, mind you often wondered if it could be tactics, they can certainly find the jack with their wood, giving me something to think about, thats why they are beating me.

Hi never had that problem:confused:, most bowlers here wear white shoes, also the bowlers on the head are supposed to stand back of the Jack. And if there is a shadow make sure they don't cause it to cover the Jack. So I think yes it's just a tactic.

Great, knew there must be a reason i was losing so many club competitions, could be my bowling, probably is, got another excuse, not the green, or the rink, or straight woods, they cant see the jack, :D:D

Greenmaster Premier

The famous " Premier " is a narrow drawing bowl which holds the draw line allowing you the bowler to confidently predict the finishing point
Ideal on medium to fast greens
A bowl which is the choice of many of Australia's top players

had a look on the net this looks like another straight line wood, such a debate about these straight woods, only hear people complain when they are beaten, do wonder how they would cope with our wet heavy greens, wish someone had tried out these new woods, we seem to be behind when it comes to some of the more new popular woods, shall keep an interested eye to see when they reach over here

Here in NZ on a site I saw them advertised as NZ$695.00 :( for all colours incl Black. So I prefer your price, it's approx NZ$3.00 for every Pound. I wonder what country they are made in?

Hi kiwi bowler, had a look on the net, found this site, not sure if there are any coloured bowles on this site, price seems good, i think we would look into this sometimes it looks good until you try to order something then they might not have the size or color if i get a bit of time i shall you know.
Sorry about this folks had to edit this post, someone told me i should not put on things form other offical sites just playing safe, hate to get a solicitors letter, bit of a whimp really,

Thought i might be right, did not have the time to look earlier, think they only have one set would have to phone up to find out, seems you could order lots of other makes and colors but not greenmaster premier.if we wanted these woods we might have to order them from Australia, postage could be high, i am sure it will not be long before they are being stocked at our bowls suppliers over here.

This seem a really good price for a bowl that has just been brought out, will have a look at this site, most of the popular woods cost a lot more, might be because its black, wonder if its secondhand, :(

Going to check out all the prices for woods, got a local supplier, handy as you can trade in your old woods, and order new ones, don't get top prices, but saves you the trouble of selling them, not easy to sell secondhand woods anymore, everyone wants colored straight woods, just looking in case, someone asks me them i can be a clever know it all:D:D

Greenmaster Premier bowls are used extensively at my club Pakuranga by our more skiful exponants of the game and appear to be especially suited to high quality greens.

Hi Hotdog, the Greenmasters sound good, shall have a look on the net, our greens over here are not as fast, i take it you are from New Zealand, we get so much rain, we sometimes play in dreadful conditions, they only stop a game when the green gets waterlogged, Barry:(

hello hot dog, every make of bowl is suited to high quality greens, trouble is lack of finances in a lot of clubs nowadays means that not all greens are of high quality but the majority of clubs try their very best to present a good green for the start of the season:)

So Hotdog how are they on greens that are not of high quality? and are they any good on slower greens?

Hotdog
07-19-2008, 06:45 AM
On slower and poorer quality greens the draw is uneven and you could even say unpredictable, The bowls are high crown and similar in finish to my Almark Edge with a slightly less forgiving last metre of run, ie very weight control dependant. They are a narrow bias bowl with a very straigt run into the jack with little or no final turn before coming to rest.
If I was in the market today for a high performance bowl I would be looking at a Redline or colored Vector VS both Of which appear to handle the poorer greens more readily than the greenmaster.

However there really is only one good bowl and that is the bowl that is comfortable in your hand and you feel comfortable with. Bowls are like women no two are the same, you look after them and treat them right and they recipricate.

Hi Crabie, may be those are the previous models. The new ones for sale in NZ are Greenmaster Premier or Power, power is the narrowest drawing bowl of the two.
The web site mentioned the names of some top bowlers that use them, so they must only play on good greens:grin:

Wondered why they were on ebay, usually advertise them up the club first, size 5 is hard to sell,

? Classic Two's are not a straight bowl!

To ban a type of bowl it would have to come from a lot higher like World Bowls and would most likely be because the bowl was straight.

Surfer

Yep the classic twos are pretty straight, but a lot of the new bowls take a narrow line, think its just sour grapes because they lost, hear a lot of groaning about woods when people get back into the changing rooms, all right if they win.:cool:Surfer

Well over here they don't seem to be pretty straight, my pairs partner, bowls with classic two's and they take almost the same line as my masters?
But I would say Henselite's Impact, ABT 2000's, ABT - evo and Dreamline have a narrower green.

When your greens are dry and it's been sunny for a few days how fast are they?

Sam
07-22-2008, 09:02 AM
Hi am playing this afternoon, in ladies club league, and our green will be

really fast,

About the same as indoors, shall have to concentrate hard,

we usually beat this particular club when its wet and heavy,

But they have a lot of indoor players in their teams,

So we shall have our work cut out, looking forward to the game, weather

is wonderful today making the most of it Sam:D Must remember the sun

lotion.

Well lost this afternoon, needed the points, managed to get four,

Won one rink lost the other, two rinks of triples,

We were level on the last end, and i had a shocking end,

And we lost be three shots, the opposition Skip had a really good game,

Holding four, next minute we would be two down, end after end, soul

destroying, getting rid of the frustration Sam:(:(

Hi Kiwi Bowler, our greens get really fast in sunny weather,
The grass is not used to it, what with the constant use in wet weather
It gets really worn, and you get brown patches, where it picks up speed, takes a lot of consternation,
At the end of the rink gets the most wear, the bowls just pick up speed and end up in the ditch.:cool:Surfer

kiwi bowler
07-24-2008, 10:40 AM
But even so, do you prefer playing on the greens when they are faster?

I myself do, I feel it takes more bowls skill :grin:than when you have to heave a bowl up the green:confused:

Angel
07-24-2008, 09:06 PM
I like playing on a really fast green, think its more of a challenge, and a bit more skill, if the greens are really heavy and wet like ours are most of the time, you have got to be able to swing your arm to get the wood away, seen some very good bowlers, get beaten because of the rain, pity we cant control the weather, Angel:D:D.

Surfer
07-25-2008, 09:18 AM
Hi Kiwi Bowler, like it when its fast, but with our weather don't get it very often,
Think thats why we get so much complaining about straight wood,
In wet weather they hold the line much better, and swingy woods take a wider line but wont come back, need too much weight Surfer8-)

Blondie
