7.4 magnitude earthquake hits Canterbury

When I heard the news this morning, I heard there had been a 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Canterbury - Shock :(
They say Christchurch looks like a war zone and there's a state of civil emergency there, plus reports of looting!

Awful News Kiwi Bowler, all over the U K news!!

Did say no fatalities but lots of looting etc, also said New Zealand does get a lot of minor earthquakes each year but this one was severe!!

Yes, in a way they were very lucky in the time it happened, 3 hours earlier or later......

Good to hear things are fine with you!! Our news has been full of the earthquake that your country has suffered (and the cheats in cricket).

had a good look at the New Zealand map today & surprised how long the country is and that Auckland is quite North of the Country.

It did say that the South of the country is near earthquake fault lines hence get a few shocks each year.

I Have just finished watching a video of the earthquake in Christchurch and the damage done is incredible it goes to show what nature can do,
It showed People Looting Shops what sort of Individuals are they.

Agree with you lucky there were no fatalities when you see the damage!!

As to the looting etc, thats not typical of New Zealand, seems things like this brings out the worse in the human race and they take advantage of the misfortune of others!!!

Still not new, think looting etc has gone on like this for centuries!!!

Very little news in the U K so assume things have settled down in New Zealand???

County finals week in our County,weather is either sunny or complete downpour of rain not ideal for finals bit of a lottery!!

Last week for me outdoor then 3 weeks break before the indoor season starts!

No - Chrischurch is still getting after shocks approx ever 2 hours and some of these are doing a lot of damage too.:(

A lot of people have lost jobs, just heard tonight on the news 82 jobs gone from one of the large foods supermarkets in Ch Ch and there's many other businesses like this.

But on the other have there is lots of work for skilled tradesmen to re-built the city businesses, roads and homes etc.
