:confused:At my Club, the Team Captains picks the team, at my last club they had a selection committee, who were voted in, i personally think this can cause unrest brings it down to a personal level, does anyone else have the same system.

Hi there, at my club we have a 3 selectors (from our committee) who pick and organise our interclub teams and do our gradings etc.

Hello Devon Bowler, us ladies have a selection Committee, which we vote in, the men have a different system the team captains meet once a week, and pick their teams, a, b, c ,etc, it seems to work,:)

morning people, we have a selection committee which we vote in, not a big task as not many people fancy the job, having just one captain picking his team could lead to unrest, people could think he was just putting people he liked in and, not on bowling ability.:(

Having just one person, picking his team, can lead to all sort of problems, if you have to drop a player because, he is playing badly, they might take it personally, you do need a selection committee, its a more fair way of doing things.

Hi Kiwi Bowler, just curious what do you mean by gradings,:D
Hi Angel, we get graded here as: Skips, Three's, Two's and Leads by our clubs, for rollups and some other graded events.

Definitely do things different in NZ, not sure we use any system, if you like playing lead, thats where you stay, we do have some skips who think they are good, but are useless, people are not as honest as they should be, have come off the green and someone says, i had a brilliant game, i sometimes wonder which game they were watching, you could win every county competition, and get your badge, and still not play back end.:rolleyes:

Like the idea of being graded, if five people say that you bowling like a Pratt, then you must be, if the team captain, says it, could take it personal, could cause a lot of friction in the club

A list is put up on the notice board , for places which need filling like, Chairwomen, vice chairwoman honorary Secretary Honorary Treasurer Ladies captain and vice Captain, it is just the Team Captains, who take the position for two years, then stand down and hand over to the vice Captains, if there are more than one person with his name on the list, the members vote at the annual general meeting it is a closed vote, with paper votes put into a container and counted, It is only the men who have Team captains who pick their teams, A team captains, gets first choice of players available then the B team captain etc, If you get a captain who does not like you, you might not get picked for two years, and will have to bowl in lower teams, doesn't matter what you have won, he does the picking of his team, its what he thinks that goes, not the fairest way of doing things, hope you can understand this rambled a bit.
At our club the ladies have a selection committee, Hubby was dropped down a team this year, and is still hardly talking to his Team Captain, he is taking it personal, this system is stupid causes no end of trouble, be a good thing this amalgamation, we might all get the same rules then,

We don't have Team Captain's here in NZ, just our selectors who are from our commitee.

:rolleyes:Think you have the best idea, could do with taking a leaf out of your book in NZ, would be a good thing if some rules were brought in so that ever club worked the same way,
