View Full Version : County Badge
What a waste of time waiting to get picked for three County games before getting a County Badge,
I know more than a few colleagues who like myself will never get one it was much better when you could earn your points.
Was there a reason why they stopped this
Hi Jean,
Seems a funny thread in the 'Spain', section!!!!
Maybe as different Counties have different rules on how to get a County Badge, Spain might have easier rules, if any:mad:
Lots of Counties for Men use to be qualify for Worthing or 3/4 County representative games and you get your badge.
Do know there is some unease about the representative 3/4 times as its as much as who you know not bowling ability:(
Thats a good question Del I wonder if they bother with County Badges in places like Jersey or Spain be interesting to see how things work over-there,
I for one am not going to go making up to some official or other just to get picked for a County Game they can keep their Badges

If this System has worked well for the men over the years why is there such a fuss when the amalgamated Men and Ladies voted on it together surly nobody can object about that

Only the U.K. have the County badge system!!
Trouble is there are 2 ways,
1) Qualifying for National finals
2) Mickey Mouse way, knowing the Selector for County Friendlies, playing
the appropriate number of games, Well done had a Badge!!
They reckon in Sussex you only have to spell Sex & you get a County Badge!!!!

Get on with you Blocker I'm surprised you can spell sex let alone remember what it is, I think you must definitely come from Sussex.

In Lancashire you have to earn a badge by getting 10 points and the most you can get in any Inter County match is 1.
Hit the nail on the head Umpire, different rules means that a County badge has different meanings in different counties.
Think Ill move to Sussex!!!

Hi All,
Anyone been to Spain this year (or going) & played Bowls!!
We are going in a few weeks with 2 friends who bowl, have contacted a few clubs around Denia, where we are staying. They have been more than helpful and accommodating with provisional roll up bookings, lending woods etc.
Would like to know how hot it is to bowl in Spain and is it worth the effort???

Hi Del,
Great area we stayed in a rented villa overlooking Denia area, the villa was
in Monte Pego, they are built on the top of the mountains with magnificent views. (Pleased our planning laws in the U.K. would not allow anything similar but the views were out of this world!!!!).
Last year Four of us, all bowlers bowled at El Cid & Binitachel bowling clubs, it was mid September and still quite hot.
Mid August I think would be quite a bit of a push during the day, late afternoon would be bearable!!
What struck me is that nearly all bowlers who were resident were whiter than us!! they spend all their time keeping out of the sun as we keep out of the rain!!!!!
Had a great 2 weeks there, need a car but well worth it!!!
Have a great holiday!!
Thanks Tourist,
Thats really helpful, we are off next week stating just outside Denia in a rented Villa, sounds a bit grand, have to wait & see!!
We plan to have a couple of games they will lend us some woods, they have been really helpful will let you know how we get on.

My friend played in the final of a Competition for unbadged Bowlers on Saturday if she had won she would automaticaly get her County Badge,
Before they changed the rules she had a number of points which she had won after amaligation with the men she lost them,
Coming second in this competition woud have ment she only had to get a few more and she would have been badged,
She is right back where she started so far she has not been picked for any County games and the way the Ladies work ( She wont be)
Can see some Bowlers giving up and saying Sod it,
Angel:confused:
Surly Angel, a Lady wouldn't say 'Sod It'. mind you this time of year when bowlers get a little tired, they might.
I think unification has altered in some areas both male/female ways to get a 'mickey mouse County badge'.
Sounds a bit sour grapes, probably is!!
