Good morning, we've got round about one hundred members, a number do not bowl any more, but are life members, sixty men and forty ladies, got six grass rinks, takes a lot of maintenance and cash, how do you find playing on grass after artificial.

Hi Silver, I love playing on grass and find I play a lot better.
One of our artificial greens is on there it's last legs and does some funny things sometimes. The club is currently applying for grants to get the money to replace it.

Hi, there are three artifical out door greens around, we sometimes have to play County finals on them, always get a lot of muttering, i play a bit indoors in the winter, so find it a bit of an advantage, a lot of runs on these greens as well, but i don't mind playing on them, good luck with the rest of your games,:)

Just got three greens, at ours, lot of complaints form other clubs, cant change the greens around, lot of runs, but its the same for everyone, we are a small village club, with not a lot of funds. don't mean to sound as if i am moaning, just get fed up with people muttering.

Would rather play on grass, we have about seventy members, some are getting a little aged, could use some new blood, keeping the green in top condition is difficult, just lost our green keeper, and we haven't got anyone with the knowledge of the green, doing our best, still a lot of complaints,:(

Hi everyone, we've got a small club, but we do own it which makes a difference, been approached a few times from builders who want the land for building houses, so far we have fended them off, all members have a vote, but with falling membership, some members could be tempted with the thought of cash handouts, got to think positive would be a real shame, if it closed.:(:(:(

Hi Kiwi Bowler, is it difficult to get grants in NZ, when the national lottery started over in england, a lot of clubs did very well, but now it is nearly impossible, we are trying but so far no luck, our club needs a lot of attention,:(

Hi Angel, no it's not that hard if you do your home work. There's also quite a few places to go to for the grants.
We were talking to another club in Auckland who just got a new green and they ended up with too much money, so will have to return the extra.

Got to look into the grant system, got a lot of organization trying for grants, the smaller ones get left behind, we fund all our maintaince, including the green, new mowers, bills etc, not easy with falling members, always having coffee mornings, to raise funds, still got to battle on, best sport in the world.

Hi Kiwi Bowler, no we have only one green, but its a six rinker, not many clubs have more than one green, I know Royal Lemingiton spa bowling club where the ladies from all over England go to play the finals, have about three greens, i am not sure it could be four, we get the short stick when it comes to providing bowling facilities,:roll:

Hi guys, seems we are lucky here in NZ with our greens. Yes some of the small clubs only have one green, but they still have 7 or 8 rinks. Now I understand some of the comments I have seen on this forum.

Hi everyone, bit hard to understand, if you have a lot of clubs with two greens, our club house is not that large, shall have to take a few pictures and post them, we get complaints, because we can only play one way, its not wide enough, and we get runs, opposition teams keep telling us we know all the runs on the green, shall have to get the camera out, thats if i can fine it, only used for holidays.

We have seventy members, in the club, but like all clubs we could do with younger people, joining, some clubs have a good youth team, but they get to about sixteen and girlfriends and other social hobbies, take over, what we need is the people who have left other sports, like golf cricket, or football, around the fifty bracket, once these people take up bowls they stay for life. where are you:D:D

At my club the men and ladies are mostly in there 50's (about 25%) or retired and some of these are now in their late 80's. There would only be about 5 under the age of 35.
