I have only recently taken up Bowls and I am looking to buy my first set of woods. I play a mix of indoor and outdoor so I am thinking about three possibilities for a good all round bowl:

Tiger II
Tiger Pro
Taylor AceCan anyone offer me advice as to which of the three I should go for?

Thanks

Hi Goosen,

Not an easy question, if not impossible!!!

If I was starting again I think I would beg & borrow sets of the 3 you mentioned and have a try.

Have seen Tiger 2's been used outdoor, O.K. for a good swinging green but an awkward one with runs, the Tiger 2 being a tight wood, picked up all the runs and were a night mare!!!

Trouble is woods can be quite expensive and when you invest in a set you are a bit stuck with them so if you could try a few types before you buy then make your own mind up, hope this helps??:)

I would suggest trying "Henselite Classic Two's", they are a very good all round bowl.

By the way welcome to the forum and enjoy your bowling.

Well said Kiwi Bowler, in my opinion there are the best universal woods, only downside can be a bit challenging on an end rink indoors:D

Again warm welcome to the site Goosen.

Welcome to World Bowler Goosen

You should go down to your Local Bowling Club and get some advice from the Club Coach or Captain, do you know what size and weight of Bowl that are more suited for you,
Most Clubs have a few sets hanging around it would be a good idea to try some out before you start buying Bowls

Good luck let us know how you get on

Back to your Question Goosen out of your three choices of Bowls to choose from the one I would Pick is the Tiger Professional definitely don't go for the Tiger 11 have seen an awful lot of Bowlers buy these and the next week they are up for sale in the Club,
Try and borrow some and play in a Friendly to see how you get on,

Good Luck let us know how your Bowling is going

and its easy to blame the bowls, but you have got to get your grip and delivery right ,whichever bowls you choose,a good experienced bowler can use any bowls, which dosent include me:(

Evening Goosen

Have you thought about trying out Drakes Pride Professional these Bowls are designed for both outdoor and Indoor, have a friend who uses them and he is a Cracking Bowler
Better to Borrow some before buying and see how you get on

My first set of Bowls were Taylors and they were great I don't think they make these particular Bowls anymore,
They needed re stamping and I got talked into getting a new set of Heneslite Classic, I gave the first set of Taylors away and have regretted it ever since,

Wish I could turn back the Clock might have made it to Lemington with my Old Bowls

Take your time Goosen choosing a set of Bowls is not something you should rush into

know what Mary I don't think you can beat the Older Sets of Bowls these new ones that are being brought out not a patch on mine,
Have tried some but you cant get the swing needed to get round short Bowls

I changed last year to Taylor Ace and think it's been a good choice for both the indoor and outdoor, must say it was also cost that helped me make up my mind.
I seem to recall (not that I am anywhere near this level) the world championship indoor bowlers often use the Taylor Ace.
Take good note of the advise by various members and if you can borrow before buying a set.

Thats very good advice Keo I wish when I started Bowling that I had borrowed some different bowls to try out, ended up a very expensive lesson for me had to change bowls a few times before I found a set that were right,
