can i insist on a measure

Can anyone help, played a singles game last week, thought the jack was too short, on two occasions, and had it measured, it was just up, it was a pretty long game went nearly down the card, had what i thought was a short jack, queried it, the lady who was measuring came onto the side of the rink, and shouted thats up, I didn't know what to do, so i took her word for it, could i have insisted on a measure, i wasn't playing tactics, its just so hard to judge sometimes, i did win, but if it happens again i would like to know what i should do.:(:(

I think that the lady who came out to measure & didn't was in the wrong.
I thought the rules are quite clear in that when a player requests a measure of the jack then it must be physically measured??

The mat was up, but it did look short to me, i asked to have it measured, but she came out and looked over the green and shouted its up, I'm still not sure if it was short or not.:roll:

Never heard of this happening before, mind if she thought you were, playing tactic's, she might have been tempted to tell you the jack was up, can be real annoying when it is obvious that it isn't short.:(

Yes you can insist on it.

But another way to check, which she should have done was ask you how far the mat is up. Which you can check by pacing out steps, then she could have done the same from the peg to the Jack.
We quite often do this as it's faster than getting out the tape measure.

Her looking from the side would only work if the mat was on the 2 metre.

Think a few people might say you were, can really spoil a game if some one keeps measuring, when it is not nessary, not saying this was the case, but you have got to see how people would get annoyed with these taticts. :(
