Just back from the Bowling Club, had a few beers, celebrating, won against a really good team, its about half ten, English time, great feeling when you win, doesn't happen very often.:D
Good morning everyone, its eight O'Clock, sat morning, favorite day of the week, sun is shining, going to bowl in the two wood singles, not my favorite game, just get into it and its finished, shall sit in the sun, and watch after i lose, play better from the side line, never a bad wood.:D:D

Well done Silver, you deserve the beers and it's only a good feeling when you beat a good team:grin:.
Sam you need to be more positive and think that you are going to win!!!
Went to bowls yesterday for a rool up and just as we were ready to start the rain came down:( So we waited for about 15mins before it cleared up. The green was heavy to start with, but as the sun came out it got faster which I like.
I was skipping a triples team, we were a little behind them in the beginning as we dropped a 4. But as the greens got faster we played better and won the game 14-12:grin:

Hi everyone, lovely morning, the weather this weekend has been bril, its quarter to nine in the morning, in sunny Cornwall, played two wood pairs yesterday, lost second round, had a great day, just going to take the dog for a walk, they are playing the final to get down to the last two, shall go and have a watch, have a good day.:D
Yes you were right Kiwi Bowler, lost first round, by one shot, think i had lost before i went out, i know i could have done better, just fancies sitting in the sun, did not work like that had to mark the next game, got the sprinkler on watering the veg plot, so many weeds, my garden takes second place in the bowling season, half nine here, just going to look at the weeds.:cool:

Hi Crabie, think you could turn my garden into a green would be nice, only problem is i would have to have a green keeper to cut the grass, like the garden but not very good at it, like sitting there with a book.:D:D

Hi everyone had quite a nice day today even though it looked like rain this morning we didn't get any.
Was a little cold until about lunch time then it got warm. It's now 9pm and still warm, which is good as we have been told to cut down on the power we use. Because our lakes are low, which means we might have power cuts:(
Surfer
06-09-2008, 07:14 PM
Hello there, interested to know if the rain fall can effect your power supply, do you get a lot of drought in NZ, we have the opposite in England we get too much rain, but saying that every now and again in the Summer we have hose pipe bans, if the reservoirs get low, can cause havoc with the greens, a lot of the grass dies, and goes a yellow color, lovely evening here in sunny Cornwall, Surfer
kiwi bowler
06-10-2008, 07:33 AM
Hi Surfer nice to hear from you, yes some parts of the country do have long spells without rain.
Which has caused our problem as the lake levels are too low for this time of year when everyone is using more power for the winter.
When we were living in the far north of NZ approx 5 years ago we went without rain for 3-4 months. We were ok because we had 14,000 gallons of water to start with in our tanks and a bore to water the gardens etc. I remember just before the rains came we were down to approx 2,000 gal's of tank water. Lots of our neighbour had to buy in water or went away.
Angel
06-10-2008, 08:59 AM
Thats really interesting, we do pay water rates, which seem to go up every year, but can use as much water as we like, suppose we have more rain over here, its only in a very hot summer, that we would have hose pipe bans, then you get a hefty fine if someone catches you using one.another lovely sunny day, marking this afternoon hate standing still when its so sunny, shall have to try and not move.:D:D
Surfer
06-10-2008, 09:20 AM
Know all about water rates, coming from Cornwall, we pay a lot, Get a good few holiday makers, down here in the summer, they use a lot of water, when you talk about having a tank in the garden, does every house have one, and do you have to use any chemicals to clean the water.:D still lovely weather, hasn't rained all week which is a change, good for bowling,
kiwi bowler
06-10-2008, 10:58 AM
Hi, most cities and large towns are on town water supply and yes you pay for the water you use, plus a set charge for waste water (this is a new charge, only been about for approx 2 years now).
They do put chemicals in the town water supply, so it doesn't taste as nice as our tank water up north, but it's ok.
If you live in a rural area away from a town or live in a small town you would have your own water tanks.
Had another nice day in Auckland today with no rain:grin:

06-10-2008, 09:56 PM
Hello everyone, great sunny day, just getting a little dark, find the way we use our water around different palaces fascinating, think you have the right idea in NZ, do not understand with the rain fall we have, each house would be self sufficient, they keep on about the green footprint, the money we spend on water bills, is ridiculous, when we have it free, most of the year, the water companies must be making millions every year, sorry, just getting a bit mad,

06-11-2008, 06:41 AM
:cool:Hi everyone, up very early this morning, not getting a lot of sleep, think its the birds out side chirping, got to agree with you about the water situation, would make sense to have our own tanks, they put so much chemicals in, problem is it would only work in the countryside, where you have lots of room, no good if you live in flats,in town, sorry getting side tracked again, playing in a friendly this afternoon, so have a good day. weather is still good getting colder next few days.

Hi Angel, for this competition it can be any combination and I have entered with a mate from my club.
Sorry it seems I left off the Kong, What I meant to sell was "Hong Kong Pairs", also known as 2-4-2. Which is a very good practice game for all positions.
But alas because of the rain :(I will now have to wait until next Sunday to play.

hi interesting names some of the competitions we play in have, shall have to research how they originated, when i get time in the winter, got names like Kernow Cup, like the one called golden oldies, thats for ladies over seventy, reckon some lady thought this up to find out how old her friend was, crafty, only joking, puts everyone on a level playing field, :D

Hi Angel I don't know yet, it will be up to the organisers at the club that's holding the competition. It will most likely be 2 games of so many ends.
In Hong Kong pairs (2-4-2), The Leads that start have 2 bowls, then change ends and the other partner comes downs and bowls their 4 bowls, the the lead plays their last 2 bowls. Then on the next end it's opposite.
That's why it's such a good game for practising all positions - at times you are a lead, a two and a skip:grin:

No snow in Auckland, but they get snow in the Lower - Mid North Island and most parts of the South Island in the winter. The closes in Auckland to snow would be Hail Stones.

Good morning everyone, we very rarely get snow in Cornwall, but if it does happen the whole place grinds to a standstill, not sure why, i think they are not used to having any, used to live in Ireland and it snowed on a regular basis there, everything just carried on as normal, unless it was so deep no one could move, got a more milder climate in Cornwall. Have a good day Surfer:cool:
Hi everyone, bit wet and windy, just past nine in the morning, and looking very gloomy out side, got a friendly today, shall have to look out the wet weather gear, if it rains too much you could end up in side trying to entertain a touring side, going back to the subject of snow, must be awful to be completely cut off, i expect if you get it every year you would be prepared, and stock up,

Hi Kiwi Bowler, if its raining just a bit, we always bowl, but as the rain gets heavier we just carry on, only when the green gets unplayable nearly under water, do they stop, all depends how your skip feels about playing in the wet, our skip does not mind the rain, so we will play in all weather, a lot of other lady skips, are afraid of slipping and refuse to play, all depends, we get so much more rain over here,:(:(

I got a phone call to say the bowls was cancelled at 8.40am Sunday, then after the call the sun came out and stayed out all day. But then it was too late as they had already cancelled the tournament.
But thanks everyone for your support and we will see what happens this weekend.
