Hi, I bought a second hand set of these as my first set on the advice that as they have a mid bias they are good for indoors and out.

I have no complaints about them but after trying a few different sets at my club i think im going to get a set of Taylor Ace as they are a slightly different shape and just feel more comfortable in my hand.

I guess it's all down to personal preference.

Hope this helps, Tim

Thanks.

Playing with size 4 heavy internationals and i think they are just too heavy for my home green so was lookin at the DPP size 3 mediums.

Hi DFSBooler,

Have tried the Drake Pride Professional last year, struggled a bit of fast swinging greens, team mate plays with them and hes brilliant with them.
Think its up to the individual delivery etc, P.S. my team mate is left handed!!:D

In what way did you struggle Bargain?? What kind of bowl would you say they are similar to, if you could?

I would never take a lefty as a guide. Its an unwritten rule! lol

Hi DFSBooler,

Have for years played with classic 2's, no problem & have always done me proud. Played in an area mixed final & both quite young bowlers against us played with Drakes Pride Professional & they were brilliant!!

So thinking it was the woods bought a set, after about a week played in a local open singles tournament, won the first game then lost the second badly, just could not control the swing especially when I was down.
So next day sold them to a local bowls shop (do know the resold them within hours)!!

So Classic 2's hold up with a great hook, DPP's have a wide arc swing, hard to describe a similar wood, but as have said if you can master them some payers a brilliant with them!:o

Yeah Classic 2s were going to be my first choice but they are only made in heavy weight now.

I thought the DPP was a mid bias bowl?
Im currently playing with the Taylor Spectrum (international) and they are a decent bowl but i think size (4) and Heavy weight are killing me as im just about throwing them at long jacks, and my delivery doesnt suit heavy greens. Was playing in a rink last week and a lot of my bowls were coming out my hand as "turnips".

Hi DFSBooler sounds like your Bowls might be too large for you, and a bit heavy its really frustrating when you cant get your Bowl away and

they bounce and skid halfway up the green,One of the causes is gripping your Bowl too tight have done the same thing myself,

Might try wearing a glove, I know it worked for me Hope this is of some help

Yes i do think this is my problem Snapper, think im using the momentum of my delivery to keep the bowl in my hand.

Although the sizing guides the likes of Thomas Taylor provide in shops shows im a Size 4 nearly 5! lol.
Im def going down a weight and size, can only be a good thing for the greens around here. Pricing Classic 2s and possibly DPP.

You want to ask around your Club, Bowlers usually have a extra set of Bowls that they have bought and not sold on you might be able to borrow some would give you a better idea of what size you need.

I have bowled with drakes pride professionals since I started in 2002 (8 years ago) and every few years have gone up sizes, they are the only type of woods i would bowl with.

Hi Jordan_Moody94, do you bowl indoors with them as well??
A friend of mine bowls with them indoors although they have a fair swing hes good with them!!!

Think the secret is sticking with one set & getting use to them!

I have played with DPP's for 4 years now (this year moved up to size 3 heavy) and would highly recommend them, they have been great for me. Don't think I'll be changing my woods anytime soon!

I always play lead and am using Classic Twos they can hold a straighter line brilliant for Leading, but I find in singles its a bit of a disadvantage because when I have to go really wide the amount of weight I have to put on its difficult because they don't have the swing to come back,

Think I would rather stick with what I'm used to and stop entering Singles very rarely win anyway,

Have you seen the Almark Edge, played against a triple last night, NO green at all but understand they struggle on a challenging green with lines!!!

Must be the tightest wood on the market!!
