Please recommened me a bowl as i am lookin at the moment to get a new set.

I currently use a set of Taylor Spectrum size 4 Heavy. These are fine indoor as i must admit i prefer to play on a much keener/quicker surface.
However outdoor as i play in Scotland i am constantly coming up against heavy greens and also longer distance greens than my home green. On these outdoor surfaces i seem to struggle for length and constantly deliver bowls too wide or too tight. Therefore i plan on going down a size and weight.
I play in different positions, for my club i often play in lead positions but outwith in open competitions i play skip so i wont be goin for a bowl that plays straight up the middle (defeats the purpose, right?).

I have been looking at the International (same as Spectrum) but tempted to try something different. Had a quick game with Drakes professional medium 3s and they were ok. Should i consider Classic 2s? Or are these straighter than the diagrams show?

All opinions very much welcomed!

From what I have read on this forum Classic Two's, do seem to be a good bowl for your heavy greens over there.

Hi Dfsbooler I play in Cornwall and am at present on tour in Babacombe and we have the same heavy wet greens I played yesterday and you had to really swing your arm it was so heavy half of our players couldent get up the green, I play with Classic Twos and they play really well if you remembert to take your arm back, I would recommend these wood to anyone,

:roll:Morning Bowlers

One Bowl you shouldn't get is the dream line its a newish bowl that is almost straight, wonderful for Indoor Bowling but our Skip has just got a new set of these and he was hopeless we got hammered yesterday he used to have Drakes Pride and played really well,
Only hope he sees sense and trades them in or burns them,

Dreamlines are excellent on fast greens like we have in NZ or Aussie, but yes they are not very good on "Heavy Greens", like you seem to have there.

As henselite are mostly heavey weighted bowls i am looking at just goin down a size and weight with Taylor Internationals again or maybe the Aces, Would an Ace be too straight playin at the back end?

Reckon Taylor Ace could be too straight for back end bowling, you will need something with a bit of a swing to get round short Woods, got a Skip who plays with tigers and he is Brilliant, that not to mix these up with the Tiger Twos they have a really bad reputation, always a hard decision on what Bowls to play with spent and waisted a good few quid changing my Bowls over the years, then I realized it was me ???

Really??

I played in a bounce game in the same rink as two guys with 4 heavy Tigers....they both seemed to be straighter bowls. Maybe just our green or they maybe just hold a straighter line longer.

Still at a quandry what to get. Def going down a size.

Hi Bowlers,

Tigers are O.K. I know of some very good bowlers who play with them, they all seem to say that it takes while to get use to them.

For me whilst they might hold that line I like a wood that hooks into the head, Tigers just don't do that, or Tiger 2's!!

Hi All,

There is a bowler in my Club that soon as he has a rough time he blames the woods, must have had 3 sets in last 5 years.

Always when he's losing on an away green you can hear, 'I brought the wrong woods'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have always belived as long as the woods are not too big then you have got to master the green and the woods!!!:D

Agree with you Roo,
Just got to overcome the 'Green' and the wood in your hand!!

Mind you have to blame something if you lose???
