I played in a crown green competition yesterday and saw a player with a set of bowls that looked like they were made of glass!

I don't know if anyone on here has seen, erm..."woods" like these before but I certainly hadn't. Obviously they weren't actually glass but they were totally clear and genuinely transparent. I'm just glad I didn't play against them as I'd have been scared to fire for fear of smashing them!

Has anyone else heard or seen of these and know which crazy manufacturer is responsible?! :)

They are bringing out some Outrages Bowls lately, Couldn't believe it when I saw the first White Bowls,
But these new transparent Bowls take the biscuit, I find it hard enough to see my Opponents Black Ones Lord knows what I would do if I had to play against someone who had a set of these New Transparent Ones.

What ever next Blondie:roll:

Thanks for the link Keith - they look like the ones I saw.

I know what you mean Blondie - I hate playing against any bowls that are not the standard black or brown. To be in a match against some transparent ones would tip me over the edge! :)

I struggle with any Bowls am still trying to get near the Jack, One day I am Brilliant the next rubbish,
Crown Green sounds really difficult think I would need to watch a game to understand it, I will have a look on Goggle to see if I can get a better Idea of how its played,
Nearest thing I have come is playing the Spider on fun days down the Club great fun lots of shouting.

Bye Angel:D

Crown green bowls probably is more difficult. I personally think it takes more skill to play (but then I would say that as it's the game I've played for years! :)). More fun though as you can go anywhere on the green, not just up and down in lanes - and you have to judge the contours of the green as well.

Whilst Crown Green is a completely different game did play against a crown green touring side a few years ago on an artificial green.

We played the proper game, lawn bowls, but they were very good and did notice how competitive they were, even for our roll up!!!!!

I think the loosesrs bought the drinks!!!:)

Hi Angel

My league's season started last weekend but there are usually some preseason competitions running a little earlier. I don't normally bother with those though as it's still a bit too cold for me :) - although we've had nice sunny weather for the opening two league matches which makes a nice change.

Do you buy new kit and clothes each season then? That's another difference between crown and flat green bowls - unless you play in a county match or high profile competition, you can wear whatever you like (well, within reason!)

Yeah, we're a competitive bunch us crown green bowlers. That and the fact we don't like having to get a round in! :)

Our Club is always bringing out new kit I for one find it difficult to keep up,this season its a colored jacket at nearly thirty pounds and if a few buy them and not every member no one can wear them, I only recently found out that the Club is putting on five pounds profit for theses jackets, its caused all sorts of problems why should we have to pay extra, its going to cause a lot of questions at our next club meeting,

I saw some last night that sort of glowed up as they rolled because they were a bright neon blue!

Hi rc10andy,

Whatever next, mind you we do need something different in our sport at time!!

We play a form of league late August into September so a few lights would be handy!!!!

Morning Bowlers like the idea of Bowls that show up in the dark, am going to go on goggle and look to see if I can find anything out about them,
Last year played a few games when the light was fading so bad I could only just make out the jack, would be great if we had something like they put in cats eyes on the road,
Know its a bit far fetched but you never know they are coming up with some new designed and Colors Bowls all the time,
