View Full Version : Getting County Games
I have Won a number of County Games both Singles and in Teams and as yet I have never been picked to play in any County Games, every year I put my name on the required sheet that ask you if you would like to be considered for County Games,
It seems every Other Bowler gets a game but not me,
I will never get my Badge

Morning Ann,
Always a bit of an issue with the men as well!! often look at the selector then the Clubs that the county team is draw from!!
It's often said in many counties look at the team and you can identify which club the main dominant selector bowls at!!!
Whilst being a county selector ain't easy bowls often lets itself down down by picking friends etc and stops the sport from growing and turns off many bowlers where they see this happening!!!!:(
think the good news is that it all comes round and eventually your chance will come!

Trouble with that idea Keith is I for One will be too Old and the Selectors who pick the Ladies teams will be joining me in an Old Peoples Home,
If you look at the Ladies who are picked for County Trials and games, most of them are in the Seventies.:(

Hi Blondie hate to say it but you are right you have only got to look at the Age range of Ladies County Teams,
Think they are afraid of putting any Younger Players in because they might loose their places.

Hi Ann
Question please where is this required sheet and how does it work over there?
In my first few years, when I was bowling very well and winning lots of competitions at my club (in NZ), I was asked by our club selecter if I wanted my name put forward for the trials for selection to play for Centre. I said yes for a couple of years, then no after that, as I never got picked for Centre, even if I did OK.
Thanks for your interest Kiwi Bowler, the sheet goes up on the notice board in most outdoor clubs in our county, asking for names to be considered.
Unfortunately our County id dominated by the old brigade and many think they see younger bowlers as a threat etc.
i enjoy my bowls and beginning to lose interest in the county!!

Ann I know some very good lady bowlers who have given up putting their names down for these County Comp the problem is the Ladies need to get three games like the men to get their badge, if something doesent change in the way players are picked we are going to see less and less younger Women playing in the Sport,

It's a good idea too!
Bowls needs new members, some friends of mine joined a club in another town because their local club didn't cater for the working Lady!

Bowls England has only this year brought out new rules that say some Ladies com have to be played on weekends like the men, its not before time it has always annoyed me that players who work and pay the same sups couldent enter these Ladies County Competitions,
Best thing Bowls England has done so far
