My friend has gotten the Idea into her head that she should change her Bowls for a bigger and Heavier Set,
She has started to play Skip position and is my pairs partner this year we have had more than a few heated words over this, she is a really good Bowler and I don't see the sense of Changing Bowls,

Morning Blondie,

Have had a similar situation last year, my pairs mate went up a size, if you remember it was a WET year, never seen so many woods slip out of his hand especially on the big shots when under pressure.

We didn't get anywhere in the Counties so he went back to his own woods(luckily he still had them) we then went on to have a great run in the Nationals over 55's.

Can't people!!!

Think I would tell my friend that it is a bit risky to play with woods that are 2 big for the bowler.

Soon as the weather gets wet or they start to slip then the problems start!!

Dont know why People think they have to have Large Heavy Woods for skipping with,
A good Skip needs to be able to draw his way out of trouble not thump the head at ninty miles an hour,
From a Bowler who has tried firing and missied every time:confused:

No, she should just stick to a size she can handle.

When I changed my bowls, I still made sure my new bowls were the same size and weight as my old ones.

Agree with Kiwi Bowler, I think its the memory thing and weight in the arm thats built up over the year, start having woods that are too big then the handling becomes an issue together with the weight

Will be interesting, Blondie, to see how your friend gets on!!

:)Hi bowlers all, iv'e been bowling with size 6 for the last 17years, you can still draw with them and they don't have to be launched to move another wood, just a draw and size 4 will just roll over which is all you need. Proof of this is in the comps you win and i've got more than my share, Please note Ausies, they are real swingers, not these straight up the middle things, no skill in them. Terry in Spain

Must be one of them winging Poms that can't manage England!!! at least not a another one in O.Z.

Can't imagine why another cheap shot, maybe because you can't win at anything!! :D:D

Hi Terry

I think you are missing the point of the threat, this bowler is thinking of getting a larger size bowl.
She has been bowling with her current size for a while now and only wants to change size as she's now a skip?
Would you change up to a size 7 bowl, for the same reason?

Well said Kiwi Bowler, we think it was a dig for the better bowlers in the South rather than a constructive reply on the thread.

Have seen many a large wood slip on a wet green, expect the Spanish poster has won 1 or 2 friendly roll ups, be interesting if he dares reply?????:o

You're right Skippy, no reply from 'terry perchard' must be a wind up merchant, Mate of mine said that loads of Almark Edge being sold in England these days, Now theres a STRAIGHT wood if ever, must be just legal!!!

Too much debate about the bias of woods, we are where we are, too many sold to start messing about with the minimum bias!!

My friend is now selling her classistwos size one heavy and is buying a size two of the same make I think she is mad a couple of years ago she always played lead and was brilliant but like a lot of Bowlers she thought she could skip, and started buying bigger woods that she had trouble holding,
Its been a bad couple of years bowling for her because she has changed her Bowls so many times last year she had Tiger Twos.
I keep telling her its no good trying different Bowls if you cant hold them properly,
Its a bit like hitting my head against a Brick Wall can see her selling these new Bowls Next Year,
